do other countries in the world have this problem of batshit-crazy fundamentalist wackos and their views on abortion?

And mostly in the province of Alberta.

I was hoping we could at least keep it to ourselves and not infect anyone else.

There are no laws or restrictions on abortion in Canada. It's a medical matter, and between a woman and her doctor.

Although there is continual pressure to reduce time limits in the UK. Currently the limit is 24 weeks, but the Mail and one of our troughing MPs (Nadine Dorries) have pushed for 20 weeks. (There is a 39 week limit for some circumstances).

Abortion is banned here, except in very 'extreme' circumstances. Our solution? We ship our problem to Britain, thousands of Irish women have abortions there every year.

The nutcases - needless to say of the right wing Catholic variety - once suggested Britain-bound women who looked pregnant (which would include me at the moment - I'm not pregnant, I just eat too much) be stopped at the ferry ports and airports and be forced to have pregnancy tests. If the results were positive then they would be denied travel to Britain. Mercifully, the nation laughed loudly.

Our Catholic Church, of course, is at the forefront of the battle - only yesterday they urged their 'people' to vote for anti-choice candidates in this week's European elections....a week after they were revealed to be the power behind Ireland's 'holocaust', ie the systematic sexual, physical and emotional abuse of thousands of our children. A strong moral voice, indeed.
