Brazilian Archbishop insults President, excommunicates mother because 9-year-old girl has abortion..

Brazil's health minister accused the Roman Catholic Church on Thursday of an "extreme" and "inadequate" position in opposing an abortion for a 9-year-old girl suspected to have been raped by her stepfather.

Doctors in the northeastern city of Recife performed the abortion on Wednesday after deciding that the girl could have died if her pregnancy with twins was allowed to continue. According to media reports, the girl was nearly four months pregnant.

The Catholic Church's archbishop for the area criticized the decision as against "the law of God" and excommunicated her mother, the doctors and other people involved in the abortion.

2. I hope the mother and the doctor get over it and live very well.

I hope they learn to live their lives just fine without the god that this bishop believes in. This girl's health is far more important, and they did the right thing. :)

That bishop is a first class ass to stick his dogma into the life of a little girl who has been raped. She needs empathy, support, kindness, healing, and people to nurture her. If this bishop hasn't learned how to bring light in a time of darkness then he should learn to shut up.

...they'll have a decent life now and won't be oppressed by a Taliban-like regime. As for the girl - she'll HAVE a life. Otherwise she would not have - she'd die a HORRIBLE death - which is apparently A-OK with the "pro-life" archbishop.

7. This "Taliban-like regime" RESCINDED the ex-communications months ago.

Actually, they never formally ex-communicated anyone -- just said that the adults involved in the abortion had ex-communicated themselves (separated themselves from the sacraments of the Church). Later, they said that because of the circumstances, the mother and the doctors weren't ex-communicated at all.

You should get your facts straight before you compare any other Church to the Taliban.
