A sign the terrorists have won
From USA TODAY:

WASHINGTON — Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to closing the detention center for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay and moving some of the detainees to prisons on U.S. soil, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds.

By more than 2-1, those surveyed say Guantanamo shouldn’t be closed. By more than 3-1, they oppose moving some of the accused terrorists housed there to prisons in their own states.

The findings underscore the difficult task President Obama faces in convincing those at home that he should follow through on his campaign promise to close the prison in Cuba, especially in the absence of a plan of where the prisoners would go.

“Coming up on eight years after Sept. 11, fear remains, and fear is politically potent,” says political scientist Paul Freedman of the University of Virginia, who studies public opinion. “When it comes to the issue of terrorism … people are inclined to err on the side of that fear.”

Thank you, Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney, for beating the drum of fear for 7 long years. You have pussified America and inverted our pride into fear. You have played on our emotions and have justified torture as a result. You played into the terrorists' hands. With malice aforethought.

1. The only thing that would make people think terrorist might still have a chance to win is...
Them still making speeches justify acts of depravity and evil, justifying destruction and advocating for suffering.

And also them not yet being held in account for their crimes, like has been done to many criminal people that support the ideas of terror.

Personally I know those that follow the ideas of terror have lost, and will always lose.

I would hope the poll is not accurate, if it is, then showing the American people what was done in their name may be necessary.

2. Terrorists won the day of Shock and Awe in Iraq
.
.
.

USA opened up a whole country for a recruiting/training ground

Iraq will be remembered in history for the USA as Afghanistan is remembered for breaking the back of the Soviet Union.

"Superpower" bogged down in a tiny country where the barefoot citizens fight them back with rifles and rpgs - OH and those IEDs

If only the USA had been truthful and ethical

sorry -

I guess I had higher expectations of US-Americans

silly me

4. Meh, sorry to say but I'm not surprised
Americans talk a good game, but I've met very few who actually have anything worth noting in the "patriotism" department. It's all about symbols and tough words to most.
