Joe Biden Kept Me From Going Home
For over 45" I and thousands of other people who live in this area were prevented from going to our homes. This was tonight at around 9-9:45 p.m. EST. I am furious.

Why?

Because Joe Biden was attending Jon Corzine's "victory party" down the road a mile or two.

The police had every possible way to get into an approximately 10 square mile area shut off. It was chaos. Cars were backed up in every direction. People circled round and round, trying to get to their homes.

Everywhere people were confused and no one knew what was going on. Some people thought it was a chemical truck spill. Others thought criminals were on the loose and cornered somehow into this area. I know this because I got out of my car and talked to my fellow motorists who were also stuck in this mess.

Fuck you Biden, and you too, Corzine. You assholes are no better than bush and his arrogant cronies.

This is the last of my support for Biden and Corzine.

As my husband pointed out, they in no way needed to shut this large amount of an area off. They could have easily arranged their exit another way.

This is an arrogant abuse of power and shows absolutely no respect for citizens.

Oh and p.s., I had my husband with me and whom I had just picked up from the airport. He came in from Italy and for him it was something like 1 or 2 a.m. He was very tired and needed to get home to a shower and bed.

But no, we had to sit in traffic because of Biden and Corzine and BECAUSE THIS IS A FREAKING POLICE STATE.

NOT pretty. No wonder he wasn't re-elected.

3. wrong
I stormed into the police station and they told me to call the Governor's office.

Oh and I wasn't the only furious citizen in there. There were many confused, upset, angry people--just trying to get home.

5. Do you really think that Biden said, "Hey, let's fuck with all these folks and mess up their lives!"
I mean, come on.

The people at fault were the secret service, the governor's security detail, and maybe the state and local police. Biden probably had no idea where the perimeters were described.

Write a letter--or better, yet, an email (letters get routed to the anthrax place) and complain. Get your friends to do it too. It's how you make change.

If people didn't kill other people, like they killed John, Martin, and Bobby....or shoot people like Reagan, or try to shoot people like Ford, we wouldn't have this level of security and these onerous PITA security zones.

11. worse
Do you really think that Biden said, "Hey, let's fuck with all these folks and mess up their lives!"

Worse because no thought was given to the impact on local people.

The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. And that is what they showed.

And no, we were not warned.

Also, I found out they closed the place off around 5, too; then they opened it back up and again closed it down upon their leaving around 9. That is several hours of people not getting to go home and during rush hour--after work, when people most desperately want to go home.

I am not going to blame the crazies for this. It is the politicians I blame because they there was no practical reason for what they did. I know the streets in this area and I know the route my husband suggested would have worked well and very few people would have been inconvenienced. This is craven abuse of power.

And don't tell me about the security people--they report to somebody and ultimately, who do they report to?

22. All I can say is, I've accompanied people who had need of varying levels of security.
And they're completely unaware, as a rule.

Write, complain.

For all you know there may have been an unstated "specific" threat and the staties, or whoever protects Corzine, freaked out a bit and went to overkill.

Ultimately, they don't "report to" the President, not in the way you would think. Yes, he's the ultimate authority, but that stuff is delegated. Usually, they report to a chief of staff, or some other aide, who manages them on behalf of the bigwig, be it the President, VP or a governor.

Really. Those guys have serious shit to concern themselves with. That's not to say you don't have a gripe, but if you just say "Fuck them, I hate them, they're terrible, off with their heads!" then you aren't giving them a chance to improve.

6. Poor planning on Biden and Corzine's part
But blame American history and assasination attempts and successes for these kind of events.

Biden and Corzine should have picked a venue and a time where it wouldn't have impacted local residents. It sucks sitting in traffic..

9. Oh please you have to be fucking kidding me
You know how many times I tried to leave work and was stuck because Joe Biden was coming home? Remember I live in his home town and you don't see me bitching about when he holds up traffic.

And I've been stuck in similar situations with previous presidents and vice presidents. I was 2 hours late for a DUer's birthday party in NYC because Dick Cheney managed to shut down all the major highways in Philadelphia.

At least you have a home to go to and at least you're safe here in America and not stuck overseas waiting for this war to end.

Look, maybe you think your time is worth nothing. Maybe that's why it doesn't bother you to sit around waiting for a politician and his entourage to pass through.

I value my time and furthermore, I expect a politician who holds an office of this nature to show common sense and respect for the people they govern.

Ok, it sucks that you got held up in traffic. But seriously, you want Biden and the Gov of the state to drop whatever it is they are doing and plan their events so that you aren't delayed 45 minutes?

Yes, someone dropped the ball. However, it would be insane if Biden were worrying about issues of his personal travel. I'd rather he focus with our president on issues of national security and the economy. Might throw in healthcare as time permits. Traffic management? Not so much.

29. 45 minutes? Try getting around Connecticut some time. Small state with a ton of people.
45 minutes can be a normal weight time to get stuck in....just for a car accident. I think its all a bit much to be freaking out over it. Try 84 near Waterbury, I detest that area of the highway. Gotten stuck in traffic there for over 20 minutes many many times.
"Police State"....yeah okay. Blame the wingnuts that want their guns everywhere including in National Parks.
Also, during a snow storm here my husband got stuck on 84 for almost 5 hours because tons of tractor trailers got stuck and couldn't move. He went on with his life just fine the next day.

While he did some bullshit thing there, event was announced 3 days before, and I had no clue that he was going to be there the same day I was

Yet when I list the reasons why I hate George W. Bush, somehow those 9 hours stuck in that miserable airport never makes the list.

47. Really?
You might try asking some of the people of Seattle's Eastside what happened the last time Little Boots showed up for a fundraiser. He managed to shut down 405, the main freeway, off and on for over three hours that afternoon. During rush hour. I should explain that in the Seattle area, rush hour starts at 3 PM and typically ends about 7. Hundreds of thousands of people sat on a stopped freeway, surface streets, couldn't get through Bellevue, etcetera.

Do you know how much Dave Reichert, the asshole the fundraiser was for, made that afternoon? Try $16,000. Do you know why traffic was such a mess? Drinky McDumbass just couldn't land at Boeing Field. He had to shut down Sea-Tac. Again. Thousands and thousands inconvenienced because Dave Reichert is the most selfish jerk ever.
