Republican racism has awakened and reared its ugly head.
When prominent Republicans accused Sotomayor of being a "racist", they were only projecting their own feelings.

When they attack Obama as being a socialist, a comrade, a Muslim, they are only concealing their racism under a different guise.

When Obama nominated the first Hispanic woman to the Supreme Court, they could no longer conceal their true feelings. Now they are all over cable television with their "racist" charges. They call it "reverse racism".

Some, including Newt Gingrich, are starting to backtrack from their earlier charges. Why? Because they see that it is not selling and it could be a disqualifier for anyone expecting to run for the Presidency next time around.

2. Not like racism has ever slumbered
But the GOP has had enough sense not to make such overt statements. Usually it's the dog whistle stuff like announcing one's candidacy in Philadelphia, Mississippi, or talking up "state's rights" when it comes to the civil rights we are all entitled to as human beings.

My theory is that the Republican Party was so drunk on its own permanent majority rhetoric after 2004 that reality, which took its sweet time to intrude, has thoroughly discombobulated them. So much so that turning to hacks, re-treads and never-weres such as Newt Gingrich, Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh is all they can manage for now.

4. Republican racism has been exposed
It's never been dormant or asleep, just covert.

While better PR and a supporting cast that has a bit of color helped keep it in stealth mode, racism is a party platform for the Republicans.

5. Those people are horrible.
How does anyone live with that much personal corruption and still be able to function?

6. Awakened?
Where have you been? When it comes to racism, Repubs sound like Cornholio after 3 pots of coffee.
