Rumsfeld to 'face difficulties' over Guantanamo: UN expert
AFP
Published: Wednesday June 3, 2009

Former US defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld could soon be in trouble for the role he played in human rights abuses committed in the Guantanamo prison, a United Nations expert said Wednesday.

"In a year or two, his responsibilities will be established. Wherever he goes, he will face difficulties," Leandro Despouy, who is Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, told journalists in Geneva.

A US bipartisan Senate report released late last year found Rumsfeld and other top administration officials responsible for abuse of Guantanamo detainees in US custody.

It said Rumsfeld authorised harsh interrogation techniques on December 2, 2002 at the Guantanamo prison, although he ruled them out a month later.

3. Ah the smell of UNIVERSAL JURISDICTION... we don't. somebody ELSE will
yes, it is that simple.

And before it is all said and done Rummy will not be able to leave US borders... if we decide not to follow that concept called the law and prosecute him ourselves.

Empire and its needs will drive this. If they believe that the Empire needs this one to fall on his sword... oh well nice knowing ya Rummy...

Meanwhile, Troy Davis is languishing on death row after 20 years of being in prison for what appears to not be his crime. And they still want to execute him.

Where the fuck is justice? What is wrong with this god damned country? Smoke a joint, and do more time than attacking a country and killing a million people? There should be life sentences for all involved in Bush's administration who were involved at all in starting that invasion, and torturing. Period. Zero tolerance. I hate that phrase. But only because it's directed at people who are minding their own business. Taking drugs isn't a crime. We made it a crime. Dropping bombs is more than a crime.

This Bush crime is a shell game. And with Congress complicit, the shells just aren't getting a lot of attention.

I like Sibel Edmonds's idea of exposing the MSM. It's probably our only hope. Slowly get journalism to be honest. Then, and only then, will America find it's rudder.

Actually, this does give me quite a lot of optimism. Even if we never act on it, I know there is a real world outside of our borders-

"Judicially speaking, the United States has a clear obligation" to bring proceedings against Bush and Rumsfeld, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture Manfred Nowak said, in remarks broadcast on Germany's ZDF television.

13. BushCo* confined to the U.S. as it goes down in flames due to their own multiple acts of arson?
Geez, that's gotta suck. It's going to get rough for them on the homefront as more and more of our fellow citizens realize the full scope of what they cost U.S..

Can't wait to hear the wails of "Save us St. Ronald!"

16. More than one Bush official will have complicated retirements.
They will need a lot of money and time, and it will involve
the legal system.
