:wtf: is up with that? At 2 pm today gas was $2.37/gal when we put gas in my friend's vehicle. I went back at 9 pm to put gas in my vehicle so the little ghostette can get to school tomorrow and the price had changed to $2.47/gal....

What happened to all that oil that was pumped when prices bottomed out a few months ago? Some posters here said that we wouldn't see lower prices for a couple of months, due to the fact that it took that long to get from the refineries to the storage facilities and then to the gas stations. Prices have been steadily rising though, not going down. It's been my observation that when prices *do* go down, it's only about .03 cents, but when the prices go up, they go up by .10 - .12 cents in one shot.

Again I ask: :wtf:

6. I usually use about $15/week unless I have to make an extra trip to town
or go to a doctors appointment. I usually just do the 30 mile round trip to town for groceries once a week, then just run to the little store a couple miles up the road for small things I may run out of. I don't drive unless I absolutely have to.

18. LOL
I apologize in advance if you weren't trying to make a point about how setting up your life to insure that you're a slave to oil companies is a really bad idea.

19. I set up my life for my own comfort...
I only go to town once a week because that's about all I can physically stand. I live in constant pain due to an accident at work 6 years ago. Riding in a vehicle is pure torture for me...

22. Any response I make will make me look like an insensitive cad
But what the hell.

I'm drunk.

Obviously I'm sorry that you live in constant pain but I didn't know that when I made my earlier post.

I just don't quite get why people have known for over 30 years that gas prices can go increase dramatically, but still choose to live far away from life's necessities.

I'm sure there are good reasons but you can't say you weren't warned about the consequences of your choices.

25. Naw, you're cool, man..
Hey, I lived in the Homestead/Florida City area for years. I used to ride a bike just about everywhere I went. I loved riding out in the Everglades every weekend. It was better than driving because you could just ride along slowly enjoying the scenery and wildlife.

If push came to shove, I guess I'd have to tough it out with a horse and buggy or something, but yeah, I have my reasons for living where I do. I like my peace and quiet! I live in my little mobile home on 12.5 acres out in the country, and wouldn't trade it for a million dollar mansion in Beverly Hills or Penthouse Suite in New York to save my life.

I can live with my little $15/week in gas. Hey, I'm just using what I saved up by riding a bike a lot when I was younger

3. Apparently the Wall Street criminals are buying it all up and storing it
No, not the stocks or the companies. The oil itself. There's another thread here about JP Morgan Chase buying tankers full of oil and parking them somewhere.

9. I just read that thread...
Looks like they're storing diesel/kerosene... which is why deisel is still higher than gas although it used to be a lot cheaper. I think it's an attempt to run independent truckers out of business... but that's just *my* opinion...

14. I was about to comment on diesel- it's about the same as regular here
last summer, diesel was higher than premium to the tune of $4.50/gallon. One article said that the answer as to why the oil companies were doing that was "Because we can."

24. Diesel use to be a junk type fuel, refined from just about quality
crude oil available. Now the only diesel legal for highway use is low sulfur diesl. Refining Diesel now requires a high grade "sweet" (low sulfur) light crude oil. This is the highest cost crude oil, mostly imported.

That's how THEY look at it. After all, what're ya gonna do??

They can charge anything they damned well want to, and get away with it.

10. I think you just nailed it... but then again, I had no choice but to pay it..
I didn't *gladly* pay it.... I just paid it.

People will continue to pay, as we saw during the $4+/gal a while back. That had an effect on people and businesses too. I know a couple of people who lost their jobs because they couldn't afford to drive to work. Loads of businesses got hurt because people didn't have extra money to spend anymore. They couldn't afford to eat out anymore. They couldn't afford those movie tickets, concert tickets, sports event tickets, etc.

I cringe when I see people right here on DU who say that gas should be a minimum of $5/gal or so. They don't think of people who work for minimum wage or a little more, or those who are on fixed incomes. They think high fuel prices will jumpstart the search for alternative fuels, but they're mistaken. It'll only prolong the effort as millions of poor people won't be driving anymore, only the rich will be able to afford the fuel and they're not concerned with price...

13. It's simple. The world's petroleum dynamics are sputtering like
an engine running out of gas. If you haven't studied the situation, you probably don't agree or understand why. It's too complicated to explain.

17. Gas Prices of $4 or More A Gallon
is what caused our recession. It was the last great theft before dipshit Bush left office and there would be some accountability for excessive trading and price gouging.
