26. RIP, Grasshopper.
David Carradine led a wild life, and it's a wonder he made it to age 73. In addition to his role as Kwai Chang Caine in the ABC Kung Fu series, I remember seeing him in the SF satire pop classic, "Death Race 2000", in which he delivered the immortal line,

"I am Frankenstein, and I drive the Monster."

He raced a Ferrari Daytona at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1974, and was quoted as saying that humanity needs to use up all the oil on earth as quickly as possible before it can evolve into a higher life form, and that he was doing his part. He was photographed in a non-simulated sex scene in Playboy with his then partner Barbara "Seagull" Hershey. He was an avid consumer of LSD and other psychotropics.

Definitely an icon of his era. Travel onward, faster.

53. It means his body gave up. Sometimes "natural causes" are all you get without an autopsy
And many times there's no point whatsoever in an invasive autopsy. Life is a complicated set of interdependent systems. Failure can come from a weak spot in one that finally gives out or a culmination of events or stresses in two or more.

Natural causes doesn't have to "mean" anything other than the natural process of death.

55. OK, but I think there's need for an autopsy. No matter how rough his life was, the
family deserves to know what organ(s) systems gave out.

He's too much of a public figure celebrity to just throw up your hands and say, "Well he looks rough and lived a tough life."

We don't know WHAT killed him and I think it's important.

57. Why do you feel his family should have the need to have his body torn up for no gainful reason?
Most families don't want that, or require it.

People die.

Just because he's a public figure doesn't grant the public any kind of automatic right to satisfy some ghoulish desire to know whether he died from an intestinal bleed or an MI.

If the family doesn't request an autopsy why do you think you have some kind of claim? Because he made some movies? That was his job. I dearly hope total strangers wouldn't feel so free to chime in declare their interest in what should be done with your body or my body after death based on our occupations.

People die.

If there is no sign of struggle, no lethal amounts of drugs in his system and it's not suicide, that leaves natural causes and it will be up to the family to determine what information is released and that is EXACTLY how it should be. The deceased and his family deserve that. Furthermore, they owe you and I absolutely nothing, least of all an autopsy to satisfy some total strangers curiosity.

62. Given the latest news of the apparent cause of death = Hanging - I think there will be an autopsy.
As there SHOULD always be.

Hell, the man was 72 not 102. If I were a family member, I would want to know WHAT SPECIFICALLY killed him even if it was a confluence of organ failures.

65. Deaths resulting from violence necessitate autopsy, but natural deaths do not and are up to the
family, as it should always be. It is not up to you or I to determine for other families what they should do with their dead.

69. You misunderstand me. Carradine's death is now known to be a deliberate act.
That puts it in the realm of violence, be it against another or oneself. What I said was that any death by violence necessitates an autopsy, as it should be. If, however, a death is natural, (unlike Carradine) it is up to the family to decide whether an autopsy should be performed. Most natural deaths are not autopsied. It is then a matter for the family to decide - as it should be.

Actor David Carradine found dead in Bangkok

Thursday, June 4, 2009

(06-04) 07:38 PDT BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) --

Actor David Carradine, star of the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu" who also had a wide-ranging career in the movies, has been found dead in the Thai capital, Bangkok. A news report said he was found hanged in his hotel room and was believed to have committed suicide.

A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy, Michael Turner, confirmed the death of the 72-year-old actor. He said the embassy was informed by Thai authorities that Carradine died either late Wednesday or early Thursday, but he could not provide further details out of consideration for his family.

The Web site of the Thai newspaper The Nation cited unidentified police sources as saying Carradine was found Thursday hanged in his luxury hotel room.

It said Carradine was in Bangkok to shoot a movie and had been staying at the hotel since Tuesday.

The newspaper said Carradine could not be contacted after he failed to appear for a meal with the rest of the film crew on Wednesday, and that his body was found by a hotel maid at 10 a.m. Thursday morning. The name of the movie was not immediately available.

Who accepts nature's flow becomes all-cherishing;
Being all-cherishing he becomes impartial;
Being impartial he becomes magnanimous;
Being magnanimous he becomes natural;
Being natural he becomes one with the Tao;
Being one with the Tao he becomes immortal:
Though his body will decay, the Tao will not.
