F.Y.I.: Splenda ( suclarose) plant moving to Singapore.
Splenda has been made for 10 years one country over from us. They have 120 workers, in one of the poorest counties in Al. They will mothball the plant, according to the Mobile Press Register.

Splenda is a low low calorie sweetener, used in Pepsi One, other drinks and foods.
I drink Pepsi One occasionally. But no more.

( Thyssenkrupp is building a steel plant in the same county, but will not tell state officials how many workers it will import instead of hiring in-state as it promised)

We are bleeding jobs here. In these small rural counties even the loss of 10 jobs is a serious blow.
Our county has lost almost 1,000 jobs this past year. The county had 26,000 people as of 2002 count.

1. There are new sugar substitutes out there, if that's the case I'll dump splenda

I do like Spendia and use it all the time but not at the cost of American jobs. I'd rather pay an extra quarter or so for the product than have people's jobs being dumped

4. maybe i just don't understand the definition of food
why isn't splenda considered a food? i kinda thought about it like salt, i may not eat it by itself but i do it it in conjunction with other things.

5. "Is Splenda considered a food?"..I found this info just now:
For example, the chemical process to make Splenda (sucralose) alters the chemical composition of the sugar so much that it is somehow converted to a completely different molecule than sugar. This type of “fake” sugar molecule does not occur in nature and therefore your body does not possess the ability to properly metabolize it. This is how the makers of Splenda claim that it has zero calories, because in theory it should not be digested or metabolized by the body.

3. I'm sorry you're losing those job
I got rid of all artificial sweetners a couple of years ago.

They increase my appetite.
