Reich wing's take on Air France disaster
At work yesterday, our resident neocon asshole wanted to get going about how there was a bomb scare at the airport in Rio in the days before the Air France flight left. I checked google and I did see google listed a post on FreeperLand about a bomb scare in France (www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2263546/posts), but the closest thing I saw on a reputable site was a line on CNN about foul play not being ruled out.

I suppose they're going to start using this now in an attempt to distract people away from things like the Tiller murder and get on their 24x7x365 fear kick. Aforementioned neocon asshole probably wanted to get going on that so he'd have something else to blame President Obama and President Clinton before him on.

1. There actually was a bomb threat called in, but
I don't have a link. I'll try to find one.

3. For all we know it very well could have been a bomb... until they
recover more of the plane or the black box (if they ever do) we may never know what caused this. Could have been turbulence of monumental proportions or a bomb. For now no one knows...

4. I read today that the presence of the 20 mile long oil slick
precluded any bomb or explosion. In effect it said that if a bomb had gone off, the fuel would have ignited, therefore the 20 mile oil slick would not be present.
I don't know if this is scientifically true, but it seems so.

5. Not necessarily.
That plane was on a flight from Rio to Paris. It takes a lot of fuel and jet fuel is more like kerosene than gasoline. A small bomb in the cargo hold would likely leave most of the plan intact. It would come apart some more on the way down but there would still be a lot of unburned fuel left.
