E.J. Dionne: Rush and Newt are winning

Dionne's column in today's Washington Post makes a convincing case that the M$M is screwing up America even more than we think it is.

His argument is that everything that Rush and Newt say makes all the rounds of cable and network news, as well as the rest of the M$M. Conversely, Democrats who defend Obama are rarely covered, seen or heard. So if only the lunatics are being covered, how can those who get all their news from TV know there's another side to the story -- ummm, make that the true side of the story.

I know that in theory, "We the people" own the airwaves. In reality, G.E., Disney, Clear Channel, Murdoch, et al own the airwaves.

So short of a second American Revolution, what the hell do we do about it?

The right understands that politics is a negotiation in which most people try to find the middle ground. So if they voice their opinions as loudly and extremely as possible, they move the "center" to the right. And sucker liberals keep gravitating towards this false center.

If those jokers said that they saw Bin Laden buying theater tickets in New York City the media would be breathlessly asking the President how his administration has allowed security to be so that Bin Laden can show up on our doorstep.

Of course it comes naturally to these two.

Showing losers over and over again doesn't mean that they are "winning". Heck, the media is all over the middle school rape story and the alleged perps are getting a heck of a lot more air time than the victim (who understandably is not in the spotlight). By Dionne's reasoning, the forces of teenage rape are winning the media battle.

Then let's keep doing it. The polls show that the more the public sees of them, the better off we are.
