I recognize the O'Rourke will be an unpopular figure here at DU because he's an old timey conservative. But he's also very funny, and this self-depricating piece is excellent:

I suggest listening rather than reading the text; O'Rourke's delivery makes it quite clear he is by no means serious.

4. He's very clever.
My favorite PJ O'Rourke moment (sort of) is when Al Franken claimed that one of his books was supposed to be sent O'Rourke for review, but they accidentally sent it to Reagan's UN Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick supposedly hated the book, and the publisher was preparing to put her review on the back cover of the book. Franken protested because he claimed that Kirkpatrick was still angry about a bad ending to a torrid love affair between Franken and Kirkpatrick, and her review was simply a measure of revenge. Kirkpatrick was incensed by the claim, but the publisher sided with Franken because they refused to get caught up in a game of "he said/she said".

2. I listened to this on the radio. Was disappointed it was a tongue in cheek thing.
I thought he had a serious opinion about what killed the car industry.

3. P.J.
P.J. is still one of my favorite conservative humorists.

I was a fan since before our country divided off into two mutually exclusive zones based on political beliefs.
