Poll question: Do you like your job?
Edited on Thu Jun-04-09 02:26 PM by Liberal_in_LA
Not 'are you paid enough". But do you truly like or dislike your job. Do you look forward to going to work each day.

Not the material factors. Also, not - 'just glad to have a job'

1. Yes.
I'm retired -- and like that, too. But I did social work, and I loved it.

5. Work is good for you. Mostly said by people who don't have to.
Having worked for about 40 years before retiring, I can say that it is highly overrated as a pastime.

18. I am a retiree but I think that my volunteer work is good for me.
I entered the workforce for the first time at 13 at a work study position that partially paid for my private high school tuition. I retired from paid employment at 55. Now I work 2-3 days every week as a volunteer for two non-profits and I serve on the board of another. My work keeps me in touch with a wide variety of people from different backgrounds. Compared to less-active reired friends I am healthier and happier. I think my work is good both for my physical and mental health.

I cannot say the same about some of my paid employment over the years. I worked at one very high stress job for three years. During that same period of time I lost both of my parents. My health improved measurably when I resigned. My weight dropped 10 pounds. My blood pressure droppped and my asthma disappeared.

6. Yes
But I'm lucky enough to have found a job working in IT for a non-profit that actually gives a damn about its employees. The way I see it, if I wasn't at my job dicking around with computers, I'd probably be at home dicking around with computers. Now I get paid for it.

7. Like the job and the people I work with.
Now, the people I work *FOR* -- Well, that's a slightly different story ;)

8. I do but...
It's getting more work, that's the trouble! I work for a grant writing company and I'm always asking for more hours.

I also like my night job but I would like more hours there too!

10. Where's the "Usually" option?
I usually like my job. But then sometimes there are days and weeks even where I want to jump right on the employment search websites and look for something else.

12. On balance, Yes.
Do I look forward to it? Well, I'm not chomping at the bit every morning, but I don't loathe and dread it, either. It's relatively painless, holds the alluring potential for an occasional windfall, and it lets me exercise some creativity. (I am an eBay PowerSeller.) Would I still do it if I won the lottery? No. Takes too much time away from the things I love more. But on balance, I do like it; I like the independence and flexibility of it. It's far better than my other options.

13. It's ok. Physically brutal at times but also mentally challenging.
And the pay is pretty good. I'd rather not have to work at all. Or, since I have to, do something involving music or writing but there are only so many rock star and fantasy author jobs to go around. I'm ambivalent I guess.

14. I've worked two low wage jobs so far
One in theater concessions. Hated it.

One in stock. I liked everything except the commute, and having to arrive at 6 AM.

16. I'm just the lowly maintenance guy but
I look forward to everyday. I get to see the sun come up over Tampa Bay, and talk with a lot of interesting people throughout the day. Yeah, you could say I like my job and I'll fight anyone that wants to try to take it away.:hi:

17. Like? Yes. Love? Probably not.
But I shouldn't complain. Many don't even like their work.
