Another reason to boycott Starbucks - Sponsorship of Morning Joe
Not late breaking, so i am posting here in Gen Dis -

From the article --

"Starbucks is becoming a naming sponsor of “Morning Joe,” in what is the closest integration between an advertiser and a national news program in recent memory. Harkening back to the “Camel News Caravan,” an NBC news roundup sponsored by a cigarette manufacturer in the 1950s, graphics and voice-overs will tell viewers that “Morning Joe” is “brewed by Starbucks"

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/01/business/media/01joe.html

Between this and the shabby treatment of their long term employees with the recent lay offs at Seattle Corp (over 50's were definitely targeted, not to mention the ones that had their jobs replaced by non benefited contract labor), I hope people will support their local coffee shop, and give Starbucks a miss. And besides corporate sponsorship of news cannot lead to good things.

1. I've never been in a Starbucks -
And I'm rather proud of that fact.

Someone once gave me some coffee (ground) from Starbucks. I put it in the box to go to the food bank.................

4. The stuff they sell that is supposed to be coffee isn't reason enough?
Someone bought me a cup of that swill once - after a sip I put it my "purgatives in case of accidental poisoning" list.

6. Proud to say I've never been there.
But this would be a good reason to stop. When will the vodka sponsor be announced?

8. wow-that was mean
if you disagree with my post, perhaps maybe not replying is a better option?

Or, do you agree that profitable corporations should be laying off the over 50's?. They do cost more to the bottom line. Who needs those old ball and chains. Then we can just admit we have a Logan's Run society? Maybe all jobs should be non-benefited contract labor, its all about the profits for the stockholders, right? And all news should be proudly sponsored by the whatever corporation is willing to put out the most money. I mean, really, if you disagree, I would think you would just let the post drop off the page.

12. I happen to enjoy that show
I know it has become fashionable to bash Morning Joe - but I am of the opinion they have probably the best selection of guests of any of the talk shows. I am certainly not a fan of Liz Cheney, Pat Buchanan, and some of the other conservatives, but, they also provide bandwidth to some of the more interesting guests - Katrina VandenHeuval, for example. Zbigniew Brezinski (I am sure that is misspelled - but you know who I mean)

I have my criticisms of the show. I have written several times - even had my email read once - complaining about Joe's behavior. But there is a wide range of topics - with good financial coverage, etc (I know - CNBC is another to be bashed around here - but I happen to appreciate the views of those hosts who very frequently visit morning joe).

I find all the bashing - with very few changing channels - very strange. Every morning a fresh bash-Joe thread starts.

I really did not place a Starbucks order. I don't even go there - don't know if I ever have. However, it has nothing to do with how they spend their ad money.

9. As a friend once said
try to take my coffee away from me and you'll come away with a bloody stump.

Actually, he said it about beer, but same difference really.

But I'm not addicted or anything (twitch)

11. I saw Jon Stewart last night, that was pretty unbelievable.
Where do you draw the line between advertising and having a program be a 2 hour commercial? Fuck Starbucks for this little charade.
