Peak Starbucks review

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,311912,00.html

The 1 percent drop in traffic at stores open at least 13 months marked the first time the company has seen such a decline, and it helped send Starbucks shares down nearly 8 percent in after-hours trading Thursday.

While sticking to its ambitious goal of having 40,000 stores worldwide, Starbucks plans to open 100 fewer U.S. stores in fiscal 2008 than originally forecast, one of several moves aimed at improving operations.

Starbucks shares fell 15 cents to close at $24.10, then tumbled another $1.88 in extended trading after the company's earnings report was released. The stock has fallen more than 40 percent over the past year, as the company has grappled with higher dairy costs, increased competition and economic woes that appear to have forced customers to pare back on their lattes and Frappuccinos.

1. I once had a dream
I woke up laughing. In the dream, I opened a coffee shop across from every Starbucks in the world called "Just Plain Coffee". The menu was short: medium 50 cents; cream and sugar self serve. I hate Starbucks.

7. I love going to Starbucks
and ordering a 16oz regular coffee.

I don't order a 'grandee' or whatever they call it. I don't get any fancy shit.

Just a big, regular coffee.

It really flusters them.

11. I barely speak English in the morning much less Italian
And I'm part Italian. I don't care for places where the small is a medium, the medium's a large, and the large is jumbo. Playing that game in a foriegn language while in need of caffeine is unimaginable.

12. They talked about this in Pearls Before Swine once
Rat has a job in a coffee shop, and one day a customer wanted a large coffee.

Customer: "Hi, I want a large coffee, so give me a Tall."
Rat: 'Tall is small.'

C: "Then what's a medium?"
R: 'Medium is Grande.'

C: "Dude, I don't have time for this. I just want a really large coffee."
R: 'Then order a Venti.'

C: "What's that mean?"
R: 'Venti means twenty, as in "I just spent twenty minutes trying to figure out a fucking menu."'

3. Yeah...
I only like their frappuccinos and I haven't bought any since I stopped working.

And I won't go back. They're quite bad for me, but the fact that they advertised with morning douchebag makes it much, much easier to avoid the temptation.

6. "Starbucks plans to open 100 fewer U.S. stores in fiscal 2008"
This doesn't mean a ton actually. Maybe their planner just walked down a street and realized they already blanket every damn city.

They are a bit saturated. I don't even think I could count the number of Starbucks on two hands (that I could walk to) in my city.

8. If you guys and gals want a regular cup of coffee, Starbucks is just about the worst choice.
Their signature Pike Place roast - which is what they serve as their regular coffee - is dreadful. McDonald's is SO much better, and about 25% cheaper.
