Gun violence in the wealthy suburbs
Fairway police are searching for a man after a possible domestic violence shooting Monday morning left a woman dead, according to multiple reports.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding Franklin L. Grammer Jr., 53, who was last known to be driving a blue 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup with Oklahoma license 522-MTH and ladder racks. He is the estranged husband of the victim, Betty Grammer, police said.

Police arrived at the scene in the 6200 block of Glenfield Drive about 10:30 a.m. and found Betty Grammer shot in the head, they said. A man shot her as she worked painting a house, they said.

Jami Hyde, owner of the house being painted, said Betty Grammer owned a painting company and was working with her crew when her husband, who was painting a house in Missouri, arrived.

Hyde said she heard a commotion outside and saw Franklin Grammer, gun in hand, chasing another painter.

“I saw him with a gun, and he looked right at me and started going up the street,” Hyde said. “I went over by the side of the house and found Betty shot.”
