Jury selection starts for ex-congressman Jefferson

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Jury selection is starting in Virginia for the corruption trial of former U.S. Rep. William Jefferson.

Jefferson is a Louisiana Democrat who represented parts of New Orleans until losing his bid for re-election last year.

He is going on trial in U.S. District Court in Alexandria on charges including bribery and racketeering. Jefferson is accused of receiving more than $400,000 in bribes in return for using his influence to broker business deals in Africa.

Potential jurors will be given a questionnaire to fill out Tuesday. Attorneys are expected to question them individually Wednesday.
