Christian Group Blesses Sotomayor Confirmation Hearing Room With Oil
A Christian group called "Faith and Action in the Nation's Capital" went to the room in the Senate Hart Building where the confirmation hearing for Sonia Sotomayor is likely to take place in order to bless the room, CBN's David Brody reports. A YouTube video shows Rev. Rob Schenck anointing the doors of the room with oil and explaining that "we are here to pray today that this will be a truthful process for the American people."

Yeah, that will make the Rethugs tell the truth.

1. Who lets these nutcases in to do this?

Maybe we should form a delegation to bless the chamber with sage smoke. Then, we could get a Santeria priestess to sacrifice a chicken in front of the doors. That'd work.

was anointed with Crisco Oil to bless his appointment.

Personally, I'd use EVOO, and have Rachel Rae rub it on me personally. But, that's just me, and I'm strange.

6. Crisco unfortunately.
Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 11:17 AM by juno jones
Dominionists are cheap bastards and many use crisco instead of the (massively) more expensive oils actually described in the bible. It works for them because they are such literalists as to actually be brain-impaired.

Nice rancid stinky oil smeared on our capitol building. Yuk.

Vandalism. Perhaps even terrorism in terms of symbolic pissing of territory, spiritual grafitti tagging, if you will.

7. I want to do a religious blessing on the Chamber myself.
In it, I will lie naked on the floor in front of the doors, while Rachel Rae personally anoints me with EVOO.

10. Can I watch?
I'll bring candles! ...And something to snack on later. Religious devotion is hard work!

11. Well, after, we'll go somewhere and have Rachel cook
something up. You can watch, if you like. It doesn't matter. When was the last time that Rachel Rae didn't have a camera on her when she did anything with EVOO? It'll be an episode, for sure.

17. LOL
I guess everyone will watch then (even if it's the horrified "I just can't turn away" kind of watching). :)

C'mon in kids, the EVOO is fine!

Surely he's not stupid enough to think people don't see right through him. If he has any followers they would have to be zombies.

Someone should hand him a soft cloth and insist he removes those oil spots he just slimed onto the doors of the hearing room.

9. Didn't they do this with Alito and/or Roberts?
Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 11:23 AM by blogslut
EDIT ADD: Yes. They did - with Alito:

http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB113649645107138940-Ku05eyOWs5xFbqD33aaAarliwqo_20060112.html

WASHINGTON -- Insisting that God "certainly needs to be involved" in the Supreme Court confirmation process, three Christian ministers today blessed the doors of the hearing room where Senate Judiciary Committee members will begin considering the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito on Monday.

Capitol Hill police barred them from entering the room to continue what they called a consecration service. But in a bit of one-upsmanship, the three announced that they had let themselves in a day earlier, touching holy oil to the seats where Judge Alito, the senators, witnesses, Senate staffers and the press will sit, and praying for each of the 13 committee members by name.

"We did adequately apply oil to all the seats," said the Rev. Rob Schenck, who identified himself as an evangelical Christian and as president of the National Clergy Council in Washington.

Rev. Schenck called the consecration service the kick-off in a series of prayer meetings that will continue throughout the confirmation hearing...

ADD ADD: They did it with Roberts too.
