a dental story - is it just me?

the other day I called a dentist office wanting an appt. to have a consultation. the woman answering the phone told me they didn't do consultations, they did evaluations.

I blinked

but went on to ask how much for an evaluation. she said $51 dollars.

what in hell is the one dollar for? 50 isn't enough, it has to be 51?

is it me?

you're being upgraded to the elite evaluation plan.

In all honesty I have no idea what the buck is for, that's just strange. Give it to them in rolled nickles.

2. They probably figure every dollar counts!
And fifty bucks sounds like, damn, fifty bucks!!!

Fifty one sounds like a lot less than sixty bucks!

They're all thieves!

there was a report on an airline reducing the size of their plastic silverware, saving on the annual cost of both manufacturing AND fuel!

6. Yup, kind of like seeing
gas 235.9 instead of $2.36 or pants $24.99 instead of $25. Marketing genius, I tell you.

4. Could be taxes
On the one hand, many health providers are suffering because people lost their jobs and skipping on dental care seems attractive, for a while.

On the other hand, some business are booming, because so many laid off workers grind their teeth in their sleep...

8. Mr Gray called a dentist to find out what it would cost to fix a cavity and they
said they couldn't tell him. Ha ha ha ha! OK. Well, I can't go to you then. Moron.

9. Smart move. Call a mechanic and ask how much it'll cost to fix a broken motor, sight unseen..
Good luck with that.

10. But you'd think they'd have a ball park figure
Like, oh between $100 and $150 depending on what has to be done. But "we can't tell you." Dumb answer.

11. You don't have prices by procedure? My dentist's staff can give me a range if I ask.
It's always with caveats but there are numbers available.
