1. The reich wing propaganda
And the American fixation on lower taxes.

2. The antiabortion movement is about controlling poor people
Deprive poor people of sex ed in the school (real sex ed, not abstinence only nonsense), deprive young women of birth control devices, and make abortion illegal. Now suddenly the poor are burdened with children they cannot afford, increasing the likelihood that they will stay poor.

Poor people are easier for governments to control.

Rich folks--Stepford Wives, Daddy's Little Sorority Princess, the Rich Republican CEO's mistress, etc.--can just hop a plane to another country and have the procedure done quietly, safely and legally if an unwanted pregnancy were to occur.

3. ..or the poor women get butchered
I agree that this is really about turning the clock back on the rights of women. That said, if one is for protecting the unborn, what better way to do so than to ensure pre-natal care and high quality maternity care is available to all?

4. But you can't ask them to actually pay for that........
That would mean increased taxes and those people might come to expect it.

5. They don't care about the unborn. Or women.
The right wing assholes who are anti-choice just want to control others. And punish women for having sex.

6. Again, I realize this. I think, however, that universal coverage is something to confront them with
OK -- we respect your beliefs, Mr. Inhofe. Every life matters! So you won't mind universal coverage for moms and babies?

7. You're missing the fact....
You're missing the fact that UHC MUST include a full range of health services for women including abortion.

8. I don't see elective abortion being covered in any government backed health plan
Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 11:59 PM by OmahaBlueDog
I only see it being covered in cases of rape or danger to the mother's life (and the latter will probably have to have some kind of 2-3 physician agreement).

I have doubts as to whether a Federal plan will cover contraception.
