Rev. Wright: 'Them Jews' keep me from Obama

June 10, 2009

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright says "them Jews" are keeping him from speaking to President Obama, according to the Daily Press newspaper of Virginia.

Wright was Obama's pastor at Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ on the South Side. Wright's sermons were a lightning rod in the presidential race in 2008, particularly one in which he said "God damn America."

Obama subsequently cut ties with Wright and the church where he was married and where his children were baptized.

Wright told the Daily Press he had not talked with Obama since he entered the White House.

"Them Jews aren't going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter, that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office," Wright was quoted as saying in an article posted Tuesday.

4. This story got the crap kicked out of it already! Wright doesn't have many fans at this stage.

He keeps trying to grab the spotlight, but his hatefest timing sucks. He yells about "them JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOZ" right before a friken Nazi shoots up the Holocaust Museum. Heckuvajob, Rev--he can't even "outrage" well, the fool.

12. Naaah. The story started out in a local Hampton Roads paper.
It only hit other outlets (Politico, Chicago papers) today. This shooter guy hates Jews and "Negroes." And he shot up the Jewish Museum and murdered the poor black guy guarding it. I don't think he'd be respecting anything a black preacher, crazy or otherwise, had to say.

5.  I really need to know how the fuck Obama chilled with that shit for so long...
I know it's a freeper talking point, but I need to know. Because as soon as something like that came out of my preachers mouth, I'd be out the door.

15. Wright married the Obamas, baptized their children, and was on Obama's campaign team
until Wright's "God damn America" sermon became famous. No one would believe a claim of ignorance. Wright even admitted that he and Obama had talked about having to put some distance between them if anyone discovered Wright's sermons, so it's obvious they talked about it.

I don't know how fair it is to boil everything Wright is or stands for down to one anti-semitic comment, though. He has been right about America's treatment of other nations, about our arrogance to the rest of the world, about the racism that still tears this country apart. And he has been inspiring as well as critical, as Obama's book "The Audacity of Hope" demonstrates.

And Obama is what, 48? That means he's known Wright since he was in his 20s. Not many people hold the same beliefs at 48 as at 28. Their basic value set may be the same, but as you get older you generally become more aware of complexities in your views, so the simple enemies you blame at 28 aren't as simple when you have seen more of the world. Wright's absolutism is probably more appealing to a 28 year old than a 48 year old.

just sayin'. Obama had reasons to stay with Wright so long, and maybe outgrew some of those reasons before he finally cut the chord.

16. Wright has said many smart things...
But saying that the jews are keeping him from seeing Obama makes me question his true intentions. I haven't had a problem with much of what Wright has said in the past. But this shit just isn't cool.

Any intelligent person with knowledge of politics wouldn't suggest that the jews are hiding Obama. That isn't a "slip up".

17. i don't know about "true intentions," but I agree with most of that.
The comment was disgusting. Makes you wonder what else he has said in private. On the other hand, it doesn't mean everything he's ever said had anti-semitism as its base.

19. Do you have any evidence that he talked about "them Jews"
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 03:02 AM by Luminous Animal
from the pulpit? Because during the whole brouhaha over Wright's 9/11 sermon, I listened to a lot of Wright's sermons, in their entirety, and I don't recall a word about "them Jews."

Edited to add... I find Wright's recent comments reprehensible.

22. It's entirely possible that he never said anything like that at the pulpit.
Highly unlikely, but possible.

People who believe that shit tend to slip up a lot.

"I heard Ambassador Peck on an interview yesterday, did anybody else see him or hear him? He was on Fox News, this is a white man, and he was upsetting the Fox News commentators to no end. He pointed out, did you see him John, a white man, and he pointed out, an ambassador, that what Malcolm X said when he got silenced by Elijah Mohammed was in fact true, America's chickens…are coming home to roost. We took this country by terror, away from the Sioux, the Apache, the Arowak, the Comanche, the Arapahoe, the Navajo. Terrorism. We took Africans from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism. We bombed Granada and killed innocent civilians, babies, non-military personnel. We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with stealth bombers and killed unarmed teenagers and toddlers, pregnant mothers, and hardworking fathers. We bombed Qaddafi's home and killed his child. Blessed are they who bash your children's head against a rock. We bombed Iraq. We killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living. We bombed a plant in Sudan to payback for the attack on our embassy, killed hundreds of hardworking people, mothers and fathers who left home to go that day not knowing that they would never get back home. We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye. Kids playing in the playground, mothers picking up children from school, civilians, not soldiers, people just trying to make it day by day.

We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and Black South Africans and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost."

"The British government failed, the Russian government failed, the Japanese government failed, the German government failed, and the United States of America government, when it came to treating her citizens of Indian descent fairly, she failed. She put them on reservations. When it came to treating her citizens of Japanese decent fairly, she failed. She put them in internment prison camps. When it came to treating her citizens of African descent fairly, America failed. The government put them in chains. She put them on slave quarters, put them on auction blocks, put them in cotton fields, put them in inferior schools, put them in sub-standard housing, put them in scientific experiments, put them in the lowest paying jobs, put them outside the equal protection of the law, kept them out of their racist bastions of higher education, and locked them into positions of hopelessness and helplessness. The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three strike law, and then wants us to sing God Bless America…no, no, no

Not God bless America, God damn America. That's in the Bible, for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating her citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme. The United States government has failed the vast majority of her citizens of African descent. Think about this, think about this.

For every one Oprah, a billionaire, you've got 5 million blacks who out of work. For every one Colin Powell, a millionaire, you've got 10 million blacks who cannot read. For every one Condoskeeza Rice, you've got 1 million in prison. For every one Tiger Woods, who needs to get beat, at the Masters, with his cap, blazin' hips playing on a course that discriminates against women. God has his way of bringing you up short when you get to big for your cap, blazin britches. For every one Tiger Woods, we got 10,000 black kids who will never see a golf course. The United States government has failed the vast majority of her citizens of African descent."

with the way President Obama blocked the recent sale of helicopters to Israel. I' am sure he had his reasons but it would appear we are pulling the rug out from under Israel.

23. I'm not happy with that either...
Obama should tell Bibi that he ain't gettin' sh*t, none of the $4 billion annually from USAmerica to prop up his little Theocracy, until he dismantles and removes the illegal West Bank "settlements", tears down the Apartheid Wall and negotiates a lasting 2 state solution.

That would make some kind of sense. Not that his words aren't fucking racist; they are.
