I lurked so long instead of posting. If you bothered to look at the posts I have done they are neither (a) trollish, or (b) in any way connected to any talking points of the RW. As for where I heard it reported, they said it on CNN on one of those talking head segments. And if you actually read my post instead of jumping on me for post count you'd see that'd i'm simply arguing for using some logic when discussing these kinds of acts. We decry it when someone like that gentleman in Arkansas kills a recruiter and Freepers use it to assault a whole religion, I'm simply pointing out the hypocrisy of doing the same thing here.

The gunman in this case was a hate-mongering white supremacist. I'll verbally assault that entire group any hour of the day, any day of the week.

What I am saying though is that people are trying to conflate some massive conspiracy here where there is none. People always try to make patterns out where there is none, because we are uncomfortable with that level of random chaos. It makes people uncomfortable to live in a world where some nutjob can just decide to go kill people because of their race, religion or political view, but that's world we live in. We do ourselves a disservice to arrive at some massive conspiracy where there is none. Because that's the first step to dehumanizing our opponents, and that just leads to treating humans (as despicable as they may be) like numbers that need a "final solution".

Both times it seems like all the conspiracy theorists just pop out of the wood work and it ticks me off, because really they are almost absolving these guys and putting the responsibility in the hands of some masked cabal. What people are saying, and I agree with it, is that all the anti-choice people, along with people like Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Beck, and others, stir it up so wildly that the deranged among their listeners feel legitimate - "Someone thinks just like I do!" - and empowered and go out and do things like murder in the name of whichever part of the blather they happen to embrace.

No one's calling "conspiracy," not in the legal sense of the term, but if you were to define "conspiracy" as a collection of people who share the same opinions and sensibilities, and who share their ideas on how to remedy the acts that are causing them so much grief.

That the acts are legal and innocent and none of their damn business doesn't seem to enter into it for me. The guy in the Holocaust Museum is nuts, without a doubt, and seems to have been nuts for most of his life. Who knows what someone like that hears when Rush Limbaugh starts up about how the liberals are screwing the poor working class white guy?

Who knows what goes on in the heads of people like Roeder? But, one thing is certain - his hunger for his version of justice was fueled by the anti-choice people, the clinic picketers, the people who post names, addresses and photos of workers who are doing good and legal work at their jobs, people who are too cowardly and stupid, too self-indulgent, too impatient, totally unable to tolerate the idea that their ideas are not the ideas of everyone.

That's an ugly kind of conspiracy. one that is very real despite the efforts to disavow it now by the rabblerousers who use the beautiful concept of free speech to spread their anger and frustration and filth.

as you define it, I agree. I think that's a reasonable way to look at it. I think tho that alot of people on DU are closer to Birther type conspiracy then your level of logic. I think alot of people on here think of it as a republican conspiracy (as in the assassins of caesar) where they all *literally* had a hand (or dagger) in the actual deed. What you are talking about is more a reinforcing of ideals instead of actual conspiracy to commit a crime (or act of terrorism).

An actual conspiracy (as in collusion) to commit a crime is an act that must be opposed and quashed like any other type of crime. That's not protected in any way. I do think a "conspiracy" of reinforcing ideals though is a the price we pay for our singular Freedom of Speech. I think there is a move to oppose speech simply because it is hateful, hurtful or demeaning, rude, crude and vile. Those are the things we have to live with, whatever area they come from.

There will always be that line where speech crosses over to action, and that is the line in the stand we have to hold to. By all means, step up Government monitoring, not censorship, and be prepared for those people who are going to take action. In my book it's not what people say, it's what they do. And as long as what they do does not cross the line into illegality, that's whats important.

No one ever said that our Rights and Freedoms would be easy and come at no cost, just that they were Right.

I posted something to that effect earlier. I read that he was an alcoholic, and like Roeder and Atkisson (sp?) seemed to grow more and more bitter with age. It's my theory that these guys just never seem to get what they want, ALL of them have failed relationships, and rather than confront their own failings, they grow to project their dissatisfaction with life, their own self-loathing onto others. It hurts less to blame liberals, focus all that hate on jews or abortion providers. I believe that's why they become so obsessed with saving unborn babies, or the world from Jews.
