Right wing crazies seem to hate everyone but right wing crazies like themselves. Maybe YOU are one of the people or groups of people that they hate so deeply, maybe YOU are on their shit list.

Are you black? Jewish? Catholic? Homosexual? From another country? Liberal? Atheist? Muslim? Hindu? Female? Maybe you're in danger because of your religion, color, sexual preference or appearance, maybe you're a target now.

How do you fight such blind, random hatred? Can you? Is it even possible?

You know, given his advanced age, he grew up in a time when that security guard whom he killed wouldn't have been allowed to sit on the same bus or toilet seat as him, nor drink from the same faucet, nor eat at the same restaurant, more less walk around like a full white human and worse, vote. Or become our president. Von Brunn and thousands like him are simply coming unraveled at the realization that the world has passed them by.

Same deal in a way with the whole civil rights movement time - and sadly, there were many deaths as our society partly broke free from our past, and tried to move forward. Dead good people everywhere you looked; lots of really bad, inciteful, hateful talk and deadly actions taken. I am afraid that is part of the process and see no way around it. End of the day, these people are about to become relics of the past. I know it, they know it, and for awhile it just isn't going to be pretty out there. I haven't heard this many deranged comments, confused thinking or infantile behavior on major issues since the 60s.

We are worlds away from the situation in the 60s, and I only hope that the extinction or suppression of their twisted world view takes less time now than it did before. I won't like the process, but not much that is this big comes easy - and I look forward to the result of extinction for them.

We are all targets since the fanatics probably cannot tell the difference. Do you shop at the "wrong" stores? Support public education? Invite "them" to social events? There is no end to their paranoia so we are all at risk. And, I fit several categories but do not look or sound like who they are after. It helps because I find out in advance what kind of bigots they are before they find out which categories I fall into.

According to the neighborhood right wing crazies, I'm a threat to society. I tried fighting back for some time, but nothing ever worked. I reported my direct neighbors for violent comments directed at myself, but I mostly ignore and avoid everyone to the best of my ability.

I'm also part indigenous and part slave. I married a white man who, God bless his heart, came from a town stuck FIRMLY in the 1940's to early 50's. Even his mother wanted to know "what" I was when we first started dating.

I give the asshole 3 crystal clear warnings.The first one is kind of polite,but clear & assertive,if they do not shut it up by than, I give them the second warning with more teeth,if the third clear and threatening warning goes unheeded the asshole will personally get the consequences of being an asshole delivered unto their sorry ass until they stop acting like an asshole.I make the hate they create too costly for them to do it.
If they try to hit me or throw an object at me, before or after the warnings are said that's it it becomes attempted assault and a self defense issue.I will become very aggressive in an instant and hit them so fast,in an unexpected way so they are unprepared,I hit them where it will hurt and disable them, preferably leaving a scar. Than I walk away.

I used to be a right-winger, conservative, fundamentalist minister. I got saved, went to seminary, graduated, worked as a minister for two years. Then had an epiphany and left it all behind. Completely.

I'm an unapologetic atheist (I majored in apologetics—the "defense" of the Xian faith—in seminary), an unapologetic hard-left liberal and a veteran. That's a scary mix for the RWers. Being white and southern also throws them the hell off.

I know that if I went to the "wrong" place and spoke my mind I'd be dragged from my wheelchair and beat to death. I harbor no illusions about the violence simmering in the hearts of the ill-informed and irrational.

I shop at organic grocery stores AND I drive a car that gets great gas mileage.

as well as some things I've done online. It's the reason I started to protect my profile here and other places. I got spooked the most when I wrote a piece that made it into a McClatchy owned newspaper and a few days later was traveling by car somewhere that was about a 5 hours drive from my home. My wife called me while I was on the trip and told me that a message left on our answering machine was threatening. I told her just to watch for anything suspicious and that the caller was just going through the phone book and calling people with the same name, but wasn't sure if it was me. However, there wasn't a way for me to get back home immediately.

Plus I'm living in sin with my partner and I'm pro-choice.

I do not need some over-paid shill like Limbaugh or Beck to tell me what and/or how to think.

I also stopped believing in American "exceptionalism" when I was a high school senior, and started reading about some of the real history of our country, not just the sanitized, cleaned up version taught in schools.
