Some on the right want civil war, I think
It really, really is starting to look like that is what some of them are after.

Anybody else think so?

2. They would lose.
The government has lots more lethal toys and tricks in its arsenal than any civilian sector could ever hope to match, methinks, and if they don't understand that, they are even dumber than we think.

4. If you are expecting an army marching on DC
that is not the way civil wars have been fought for a good while.

Though I do not expect the federal government to admit it has an active insurgency either. The media will keep pushing these wonderful lone wolves who are crazy and dumb and most people will continue to believe it.

5. Nope. I don't picture them lawfully organizing at all.
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 12:44 AM by chill_wind
I think they lean towards much more violent impulses.

and they are going for attempt two on the turner diaries.

Our boy today was a fellow traveller of Franklin Pierce... yep that got MY attention.

and Storm Front pops up as the very first hit.

stormfront... a lovely group, really.

:puke:

There are days I wonder if I should have finished that novel ...

Perhaps it is time to dust off that research as historical research...

13. Found this comment on kos a few minutes ago.
Weimar

While various violent factions engaged in pitched gun battles and random shootings, the populace as a whole was successfully terrorized into accepting that the Weimar government was incapable of either protecting them, the citizenry, or, as the supply of capital was withheld from the marketplace by financial and industrial interests, actually governing at all.

Classic destabilization feints. Often effective.

This could get ugly, we have many of the necessary ingredients for a nasty brew.

31. I'm sure he is
However this was simply a user's comment that made some sense, unfortunatly I didn't capture the name of the poster. It wasn't Kos tho.

I go over there sometimes for different takes on what we are talking about here. I've never felt the urge to join but there are a couple of very good diarists that I keep up with.

35. i can't judge the poster's take from your brief excerpt. but my point
was that these situations don't spring up organically.

i'm rejecting the assumption (don't know if it's yours) that "hate groups" like the kkk, aryan nations, etc. are just the creations of average joes who "hate".

They're almost always involved with or infiltrated by spooky types & larger forces with larger motives.

i just thought it was ironic to be discussing such things on a board run by a known spook.

Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 01:39 AM by juno jones
(back when I owned one  ) has a very professional military-style endurance/fitness range. I went out walking there early one winter when the place was closed up. Frankly the place gave me the willies.

At least I didn't stumble onto a gun range...

23. remember, they were the ones who said it was unpatriotic to question the Govt.
listening in on citizens' phone calls "to terrorists" ...

I'd say that inciting the idea of overthrowing the government is a bit on the "terrorist" side ... so, expect them to be complaining that the govt. is listening in on their "private conversations" ...

26. Yeah I have been concerned about that as well...
A neofacist extreme right wing group could rise up from the unappeased remnants of the religious right. Foreign terrorists would become the equivalent of the Communists that guided the nascent nazi movement in Germany.

This could get extremely ugly.

But all they'll really do is shoot unarmed people in the back, by surprise if possible. They don't have the backbone for much of anything else.

Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 12:55 AM by OmahaBlueDog
..since they wouldn't have run up that debt on things like welfare, Social Security, Federal Workers, dams, levees, non-toll roads, and congressional junkets.

12. Actually, some of the reddest states are most responsible for our national debt...
Looking at dollars spent in each state vs. dollars sent to Washington, many "red" states receive more than they give.

24. I'd like to see Alaska defend itself from the factions who desire its oil ...
since the military is under the U.S. government, then the military is duty-bound to defend the U.S. interests ...

Alaska rakes in the most Government $$$ when it comes to states who take in more than they give back ... let Alaska declare itself a sovereign nation, and let's see how long that lasts ...

17. They wish it, and in the process they are becoming what they proclaim to hate - terrorists
They've spent the better part of 40 years denigrating and disparaging liberals and the meaning of liberal to the point they've convinced themselves the word is an insult. Now rather than seeing the errors of their ways (as blatantly obvious as that is), they are getting even more intense at the prospect of liberals taking over the government. And liberals are no longer taking their bullshit, in private and in public. Liberals are finally finding their voice. That too is getting them unnerved.

As much as they say they hate terrorists, that's exactly what they are becoming - radical fundamentalists who cannot function in a free society and so will resort to violence to get people to conform to their rules.

Yes, I think they want a civil war - between conservatives and liberals. How fucked is that, though? We are too mixed together. Hard to draw boundaries around that.
