Joy Behar to get 9PM Show on HLN (Formerly Headline News)
Ms. Behar will work a TV double shift, as she will continue to co-host “The View” on ABC in the mornings. In a brief telephone interview, Ms. Behar said the new 9 p.m. show, tentatively titled “The Joy Behar Show,” will begin in the fall, most likely in September. She called it a “topical and fun” talk show.

“It’s not going to be dry, I hope, because I’m crazy,” she said. On “The View,” Ms. Behar is known for her sharply expressed liberal viewpoints. Ms. Behar’s show will replace a repeat of “Lou Dobbs Tonight.”

HLN, formerly Headline News, has had strong ratings gains in recent years with a lineup of opinionated hosts in the evenings. The network’s signature show at 8 p.m., “Nancy Grace,” drew almost 900,000 viewers on an average day last month.

5. Just what the world needs.
Another loud mouthed, half-informed, television clown to say outlandish things and keep reason out of public discourse.

At least this time HLN hired someone with a degree!

13. Who is uninformed?
Behar holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Queens College, and a Master of Arts degree in English Education from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

She has an interesting background. I wouldn't slam her too much if I really didn't know much about her.

15. I didn't say uninformed.
I said half-informed.

She frequently understands no more about an issue than she has skimmed from her "USA Today" or (more often) "Us Weekly".

And yet the mouth is constantly open as though she were some sort of authority on everything. At least mealy-mouthed Alan Colmes discredited the left by his silence and homeliness, rather than loud ignorance.

Crack whores on the corner might also have an "interesting background". That doesn't mean I want to hear one's views.

Mind you, I have nothing personal against her. I object more to the contemporary media notion that *minor* celebrity is a more important qualification for hosting an issues-oriented information program than any other qualification. I am "slamming" the hiring of her for this type of program more than her, actually.

Frankly, I would rather they give that time-slot to you. At least you would bring a fresh voice.

Oh, but I forget. That isn't really what this *news* organization wants. They want spectacle, not enlightenment.

16. OK, that sounds like a reasonable complaint.
I never get too worked up about what is on the tube for myself personally.
I have low-class tastes, so I tend to enjoy mindless entertainment.
