On GMA just now, "When white people are provoked...."
They interviewed via phone an acquaintance of the killer, another white "separatist."

He said this is what happens -- tragedies -- when "white people are provoked."

Bring it on. Expose the underbelly of the right-wing "social conservative" movement. It's long overdue.

:wow:

3. I saw that...crazy!
And he called the killer's views/website just "politically incorrect". Like "He shouldn't be punished for having politically incorrect views, but" (he shouldn't have killed anyone). And of course, the person said that the guy's emails had gotten more violent. But yeah, "Is this a tragedy?" and his reponse was "It's a tragedy when white people are provoked into doing something like this."

6. Provoked by improvements in society
I am glad these sick people are finally exposing themselves, and that the media is allowing it. It has been too easy to sweep under the carpet.

That's what all that teabagging was about. They were "provoked". The claim was that they were provoked because (the rich) had to pay more taxes. But in reality it was pretty obvious to me what that was about. The white, male, religious extremists didn't get their way in the election and Glen Beck told them to "take back their country". I recall the clip about a year ago of O'Reilly warning that "white males" might end up no longer being in power, with a fearful tone in his voice, as if it were a bad thing for the country!

These turds have been building up their rhetoric long enough now that we are seeing the results.

7. My Mother Had A Saying..."They Come In 3s"...
"Proked Whites"? I guess this shitstain didn't notice millions of provoked whites last November who voted for President Obama.

Their caldron continues to turn...and I fear the worst is still to come. These asshats are being so over-the-top and unhinged, they're as much a danger to themselves than they are to the rest of us. However, vigilence is the code word right now at things are sure to get ugly. Unfortunately, it's gonna take another McVeigh to tamp this down...finally force the hate radio spewers to cool their jets.

In the meantime, it'd be wise for the party "elders" of the GOOP to get a handle on this thing. Getting associated with the radicals of the 60's cost the Democrats for 40 years...their love lock with the fascists and the neo-nazi will do the same to the GOOP.

10. Comes from a sense of entitlement
Rednecks are a left over from the slavery era, only white men matter and no one else gets anything without their approval.

13. Seriously.....
and this CT firefighter case, with affirmative action as the centerpiece of that discussion, is going to send them right over the edge.

Well, they were sent over the edge with Obama's election and inauguration (they didn't expect him to actually be INAUGURATED)...but it's gonna blow wide open with the Affirmative Action issue at the fore soon.

I honestly am not well versed about that subject. I know fairly reasonable people who despise the whole concept and feel (mainly because their PARENTS told them this is how they should feel back in the 70s) affirmative action is what led to the destruction of our country. When they get their panties in a wad and feel slighted or abused in some way in college or in the job market, the hate spewed by the Limbaugh types starts to appeal to them.

They feel the minorities have a sense of entitlement.

I'm trying to compose a concise, rational response to that (beyond the obvious slavery and lynching retorts) to encourage them to wake up and get away from the hate.

17. Politically Correct - Def'n
"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical
minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which
holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd
by the clean end."

Winner of an annual contest at Texas A&M University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary
term.

18. Provoked? As in everyone being created equal, and everyone having
equal rights and actually experiencing the benefits of those rights?

It seems to be OK to say everyone is equal for the sake of argument, as long as they really aren't.

It might be a long, hot, ugly summer...

21. Everyone should read a book called "Redemption: The Last Battle of the Civil War"
by Nicholas Lemann

It provides a good insight into the violent backlash of whites against the racial gains of Reconstruction. Some of the passages sound ominously familiar to today.

I don't have the book with me, otherwise I'd pull a couple quotes.

26. Descriptions from Amazon
From Publishers Weekly
Historians agree that Reconstruction was a conflict in which the good guys lost. Lemann (The Promised Land) hammers the point home with a grim account of post–Civil War Mississippi. His central figure is Adelbert Ames, a Union general and war hero who fought to preserve the Union, despised abolitionists and considered African-Americans an inferior race. Appointed provisional governor of postwar Mississippi, he was horrified at the violence that whites, a minority, used against blacks trying to vote. As military commander, he provided enough security to ensure a Republican victory in 1869 state elections (blacks voted Republican until the 1930s), became an advocate of civil rights and was elected senator in 1870 and governor in 1873. He worked hard to protect the freedmen but failed, and Lemann's description of the terror campaign against Mississippi blacks makes depressing reading. The book's title refers to the popular version of Reconstruction in which valiant Southern whites "redeemed" their states from corrupt carpetbaggers and ignorant freedmen. Agreeing with recent scholars who consider this another Civil War myth, Lemann delivers an engrossing but painful account of a disgraceful episode in American history. (Sept.)

From The New Yorker
In July, 1874, A. K. Davis, the black lieutenant governor of Mississippi, wrote to President Grant that "armed bodies of men are parading the streets" of Vicksburg and the authorities are "utterly unable to protect the lives and property of the Citizens"—by which he meant, primarily, black citizens. Vicksburg was the site of Grant's greatest victory; now, Lemann writes, "Vicksburg was, evidently, seceding all over again." Lemann's searing account of how Reconstruction was defeated points to what he calls a campaign of organized terrorism. Thousands of blacks were killed with impunity, as Southern whites gambled that Northerners would be less bothered by atrocities than by the redeployment of federal troops in the South. These Southerners also constructed the myth that they were "redeemers" and that Reconstruction collapsed of its own accord, and not in what was, as Lemann makes clear, a bloody regional fight over the rights of black citizens.

Well educated doesn't necessarily translate into being well informed.

I'm convinced people see and hear what they want to see and hear to fit their worldview.
