The smearing of Shepard Smith has begun...

http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=100732

BORN IN THE USA?
Shep Smith attacks right-wing 'crazies'
Rips people questioning eligibility as being 'out there in a scary place'

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith, host of the top-rated evening cable newscast, believes Americans challenging the eligibility of Barack Obama to hold the office of president are "crazies," saying "there is no truth whatsoever" to the suggestion Obama is not a "natural born citizen."

Smith made the remark during analysis of today's shooting at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, where an elderly gunman opened fire with a rifle, killing a security guard before himself being shot. Police were probing an alleged white supremacist, James von Brunn, as the assailant.

During his interview with Heidi Beirich of the Southern Poverty Law Center, Smith said:

"There are these crazies out there who want to pretend (Obama's) not a citizen of the United States, who want to pretend that his religion is something they see as in some way troublesome to them and all of us. And there is a group perpetuating this thought, and there is a culture to which you can attach yourself very easily through the Internet. ... We know it's absolutely – there is no truth whatsoever – zero – to any of those ideas, yet they live within the computer and they fester in people's minds."

...

Ironically, Smith himself allegedly engaged in activity some might deem "out there in a scary place."

As WND previously reported, during the presidential election fiasco in November 2000, Smith was arrested at the Florida Capitol for allegedly driving his Mazda Millenia into another reporter who was standing in a parking space she attempted to save for a friend. The victim, freelance journalist Maureen Walsh of Tallahassee, was hospitalized and released later the same day with bruises on her knees and legs.

2. Already heard it on a local radio show this morning
I had the station on when this guy came on, and he mentioned Shep & Fox News and figured, "ok, maybe Buddy Vicevich had an epiphany" and stayed with it for a few more minutes to discover they emphasized that Shep also said the guy was a veteran (though, a World War 2 vet) and they were slamming Smith over him saying von Brunn was a veteran... completely ignoring the fact that he was also a white supremacist and all around RW loon.

3. He's become Enemy #1 to the crumbling cooks left in the GOP
I kind of feel sorry for him but it is his choice to stay on that network, which he obviously believes is full of propaganda. When he's went off the reservation over the past few weeks, I've wondered if the pressure of staying on the talking points is getting to him and he's starting to crack.

Get ready, the crazies on the Right are going to be more pissed at him than liberals, "negroes", Jews, etc. for the foreseeable future. I just hope he doesn't back down.

7. I hope he gets a body guard
He is right, the people emailing him are CRAZY! He shouldn't take anything for granted after breaking from the standard Fox spew.

4. I always thought he was too good looking to be a "true" righty
(Actually, my exact words were, "I think that guy is an android. He looks freakishly perfect".)

But seriously, if he wants to be the rational face of conservatism, we owe him thanks.

5. IIRC, Shep was the one in NO during Katrina
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 10:02 AM by Catshrink
when that anchor back at the Faux said something about the reality being people could get out, it wasn't that bad, blah blah blah. Shep interrupted the spewage to say, "No! This is the reality. People are crammed into the SuperDome or can't get into the Convention Center." He was telling the story from the street but the talking head back at Faux central had a script that told him what was happening. I thought he'd end up in trouble over that. And now he dares to speak the truth again? Poor Shep.

on edit: found the video. Shep was schooling Hannity.

6. I remember him in Katrina
He was real, he was doing reporting, his job (not that his superiors are into that).

I wish he would get a job somewhere else. I think he could be really good if he left Fox.

8. somebody's gonna write a book
Somebody, some day, is going to realize that they are in a position to write a book on exactly what goes on in that place, and they'll probably make a fortune. Smith could be the guy.

12. As I said in another thread, CNN and Faux should work out a trade.
Faux gets Lou Dobbs, and CNN gets Shep Smith.
