Stupid little words have never changed a single mind
or moved a single person to action.

http://www.fightingliberals.com/2009/06/stupid.html

This is a very pic heavy blog, but very moving, and telling, Especially when you hear people saying that no way, no how could the likes of RW radio be responsible for these hate crimes.

Since before our great-great-grandparents were painting bunnies and bison on the walls of caves, one of the main purposes of language has been to persuade. And if words were merely data-transmitting phonemes -- if they didn't come right out of the box with a nearly magical capacity to motivate and seduce -- there would be no lawyers in the world. No politicians. Hundreds of billions would go unspent every year on advertising, pulpits would stand empty every Sunday, I know several hundred thousand guys who would never, ever get laid.

Words have a fearsome, intoxicating power and we have damn well known it since the Snake, the Apple and the Garden.

1. Its a fact throughout the universe
that people with conservative values are "not responsible" for anything that goes wrong in the universe, just ask them.

So if to stimulate like minded humans is not the purpose of 24/7 right wing bloviating, then what is?

2. Ironic that they try to wear that "Party of Responsibility" mantle, too!
They're responsible, all right--for a lot of the hate and distress in the world.

3. They are just freaking awesome
with word play.

I believe you have ties with the Navy? The Naval Reserve HQ recently departed NOLA (50 miles west of us) and headed to Norfolk. But I still have a big military presence close by at NAS Belle Chaase and the Keesler AFB in Biloxi. I don't like to go too long without swinging by a base and seeing how much has changed (like the latest version of Naval Enlisted uniforms.)

4. I do! I have a USAF base not too far away with a decent commisary.
I go over there once every couple of months. Haven't seen too many USN about lately--but what is up with those uniforms? Times change, I guess. I wonder how well they've been received?

Of course, it takes me a while to get used to uniform changes no matter what the branch of service. I bemoaned the loss of salt-n-pepper--at least if you sat in something, it wasn't painfully obvious!

I STILL think that the no-longer-new digital camo uni looks like little kid's pyjamas! Every time I see anyone in them, from private to general, I think "Aww, give that soldier a teddy bear and send him/her off to bed!"
