While we discuss the violence against clinics serving women's health matters, remember pharmacists!
Those radicals who went to school to get licensed to fill prescriptions so they could deny women legitimate prescriptions for birth control pills (also used for treating serious medical conditions). DO NOT FORGET how some phundie-pharmacists applied pressure and got SPECIAL legal protections so they would not have to do their flippin jobs and dispense lawful prescriptions because they don't personally approve.

That issue, my DU friends, proves the lie of 'pro-life' They aren't pro anything. They are anti-choice, anti-women, anti-civil rights, anti-AMERICAN.

When someone argues that they are just trying to save babies, remind them that there is ample evidence that the real mission is to control women by denying them adequate health care. Period.

1. There's a bill moving through the Arizona Leg. protecting the
"right" of medical providers and pharmacists to refuse to perform abortions and for pharmacists to refuse to dispense the morning after pill. It will pass, the governor will sign it. Janet Napoliano vetoed similar legislation every year but now we have a fundie governor who wants such a bill.

There's another bill that mandates a 24-hour waiting period, forces the doctor to discuss the procedure and encourage counseling, and requires a notarized parent signature for girls under 18.

2. Louisiana is trying to pass a similar "conscience clause" law
If you look at the wording, particularly the changes in wording over time, it's clear that they're not just talking about birth control and abortion. The bill could also include vasectomies, treating gays, and who knows what else.

Just disgusting all around.

3. I know!
Our local university has a "Christian Pharmacy Student Association" and I wonder if their whole purpose is to train up fundies in how NOT to do their jobs when they enter the real world. Why else would there need to be a group just for "Christian" pharmacy students? How else are they different from any pharmacy student? This is a southern state, you can't tell me Christians would feel isolated in the Pharmacy School here.

I would imagine their future patients will get a big dose of burn in hell for showing up at their pharmacy to go along with the refusal to provide care.

This is something that concerns me quite a bit. I am afraid of fundies infiltrating the medical professions just in order to deny care. Anytime I hear of some medical organization with "Christian" in the title I cringe first and ask questions later. If I hear of pharmacists in my area that refuse care, I will not patronize that establishment, and I will let the management know why.

5. Let's not forget how bush malAdministration showed us fundy lawyers too
Young fundy lawyers in high places participating in the purge of DOJ of those who would maintained professional integrity by not following the GOP hit list. Lots of fundy lawyers to make the ridiculous claims that pharmacists ought not to be forced to do their jobs!

Yeah, the xian colleges are turning out robots with missions rather than educated professionals who will abide by the Constitutions.

The special legal protections for fundies in professions where they are expected to do things they personally do not approve of is especially galling to me.

The fundies scream that gays want 'special rights' when they just want to get married, but the same bigots bully legislators into giving THEM special rights to not have to do their jobs.

If part of a job so violates your personal code of behavior, DO SOMETHING ELSE. Don't insist we cater to delicate sensibilities about the job requirements. And do not accuse people wanting the same civil rights to marry as seeking special treatment.

There are lots of higher paying jobs I could be doing, but there are requirements that do not meet my personal code for MY behavior, so I do something else. Why to fundies get special treatment?

It is NOT about pro-life. It is most assuredly about denying others' rights.

10. I agree completely
They want to destroy rights for anyone they don't like. And that encompasses a large number of people, probably most of the country at this point.

The Fundy lawyer problem is very bad, they have been trying to pave the way for the rest of this unequal bull.

6. There are huge numbers of PROFESSIONAL pharmacists around
But they are being put upon to do their work and their phundy work too. I doubt they are being paid extra for taking up the slack the anti-choicers create by not doing the job they signed on for.

I think most pharmacists are about the greatest part of health care in America. They catch so many mistakes overworked doctors make and they listen to people so they can offer the best instructions. They shouldn't have to cover for the few there to just make trouble.

7. And I'll bet the ones who refuse to fill prescriptions
for birth control pills have NO problem filling those ones for Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, etc.

8. If there are any PROFESSIONAL pharmacists here, I hope they chime in
and let us know what their personal observations have been on that one! I bet you have a valid point!

9. Since most pharmacists are just employees, I would not shop there for anything
Especially the high ticket drugs.. Sooner or later their employer would find someone who could make them money.

11. Excellent
I wish there was some reporting service on the web that would expose pharmacies who employee pharmacists that refuse to do their jobs because of their own personal prejudices and hate.

13. Fundie christians (little c) who become pharmacists then refuse to fill lawful Rxs
because they don't agree with the use of birth control pills.
