FBI: authorities are pursuing dual charges involving both murder and civil rights hate crimes

http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2009/06/officials-update-the-holocaust-museum-shooting.html

Museum shooting suspect to be charged with murder and hate crimes

Update at 12:06 p.m. ET: The FBI official says authorities have executed search warrants at von Brunn's residence and interviewed his relatives. They have also conducted interviews around the country in connection with his actions.

He says the FBI did not have an open investigation of von Brunn, but that he was known as an "anti-Semite and white supremacist."

Update at 12:03 p.m ET: Persichini says there is no information that von Brunn had "any accomplices or conspirators to assist him in his act."

Update at 11:58 a.m. ET: Joseph Persichini, Jr., assistant director of the FBI for Washington, says authorities are pursuing "dual charging purposes" involving both murder and civil rights hate crimes.

"We know what Mr. von Brunnn did yesterday at the Holocaust museum. It is now our responsbility to determine why he did. it. We have to ask ourselves (how) all these years of public displays of hatred impact his actions."

1. glad to read this, I heard he was just recently charged with murder, and
thought the hate crime issue was probably abandoned. If he lives to answer the charges (and I hope he DOES) it will be interesting-

2. Roeder? It's all terrorism. There are statutes for that. Roeder was ALSO known as a
person who advocated violence against abortion providers - he was a WELL-KNOWN harasser and terrorist - involved w/ several groups - and was he not a member of an anti-gov't militia group too?

:wtf:

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE between Roeder and von Brunn?

3. But not terrorism?
If he were Muslim, they would probably charge him with terrorism, too.
