disrupting Congress.

17. Agree and Bingaman is now just making the point of exactly
how biased today's witnesses are, he said Dr. Flowers is the only person favoring SPHC.

Though I do not believe that was his intention.

8. I wonder whether they'll even ask Dr. Flowers a question
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 03:26 PM by RufusTFirefly
My fear is that they'll simply freeze her out of the discussion.

Actually, I forgot that Bernie Sanders is on the committee. She'll get some questions from him at least.

9. Dr. Flowers did a nice job of interjecting herself into the discussion
She is a wonderful, assertive spokesperson for single-payer.

answer a question, do you know if she was asked or just seized the opportunity?

13. Mikulski just asked Dr. Flowers why the public option will not meet
the needs she outlined in her opening testimony.

Main reason is the cost saving will not be there and it only will fragment the system further.

14. Now McCain is saying the elephant in the room is how we pay for this HC reform
which is what Dr. Flowers just stated is one of the main differences between the public option and SPHC.

We have to compare the costs!

the AMA totally missed the question...difference between my balance sheet and the balance sheet of the U.S.

29. He started off by stating this is the first time a SP advocate has
been invited to the hearings, there was a small amount of applause, but he said to be quite or there could be police :)

Then I forget the exact question to Flowers :( :(

Also...

Sanders to Aetna CEO - the number of people working in HC administration has grown enormously compared to the number of primary care doctors.

My first impression of that is the comfort they must feel.

Why is CSpan shutting this out? There are no plans to replay this tonight.

28. Thanks for sharing. I am listening right now. Dr. Flowers is doing
well but she is out numbered. It is almost too depressing to listen to those idiots discussing how to pay for all this, when single payer would take care of all the problems they are discussing. Urrrrggg. Might have to turn it off.

32. Yes. Flowers was effectively shut out of much of the discussion
Bingaman from New Mexico in a perhaps admirable attempt to find common ground among members of the panel, cited a number of points that they "all agreed on," neglecting of course that Dr. Flowers didn't agree with any of them. It was as though he pretended she wasn't even there. Very discouraging.

33. Dr. Flowers on cost...doing nothing now is not the wrong thing....
doing the wrong thing, is the wrong thing.

She then went on to cite studies showing that SPHC is the only option that does not increase costs.

36. Frankly, this is what I thought the Senate would do in the first place
Give a forum to single-payer and then marginalize and ignore it. The fact that Baucus worked so hard to keep SPHC "off the table," thus courting a PR disaster, shows how beholden he and some of his colleagues are to for-profit "health" behemoths.

cannot believe that C-Span is not covering the hearings.

Also I believe that Baucus was just taking the lead from the WH summit.
