I Was Just Hit Up for a Contribution on Facebook Chat
I must be getting old, or this is the beginning of a new era. It did not seem that long ago when I used to get hit up for political contributions via mail or telephone. Then of course came email, but today I entered a new era. The other day I added to my friend list a 2010 candidate for CA Assembly and today, she initiates a chat with me. We exchange some pleasantries and I asked her about reforming the state constitution (she would not give me a strigt answer). etc. Then, no more than five minutes into the conversation, she hits me up for a contribution to her campaign. I politely said that I needed to learn more about her and maybe I will get back to her. I was, at the same time, annoyed and impressed with her brazen request. We areally are in the "Facebook Era".

4. I don't mind chat
but I got tired of the robo chat from porn sites or random strangers trying to hook up with a stranger. Then everytime I went online I would get a pop-up window from Windows messenger showing offline messages that were always spam. The simplest solution to that minor annoyance seemed to be to get rid of windows messenger.

But if you answer this post in less than two minutes then that is the moral equivalent of chatting, especially if you answer with just one or two lines.

3. well it kinda beats a mass mailing or emailing
and it beats the heck out of telemarketing :argh:

At least you get to talk to the candidate. I had a losing candidate tell me recently that he spent about $10,000 of his own money on a losing bid for the state legislature. I sure hope we can get a candidate for that race in 2010, but it is a tough district, having been held by a Republican for the last 6 elections.

So they need money, but I sorta think that candidate relied too much on money. That he could have gotten almost the same results with much less money.
