Imagine how you'd feel if a "popular" DUer did something big, insane, and violent

To the 70-80% of freepers who aren't crazy as a rat in a coffeecan:

I hope this causes you to examine your fear and anger and consider about how much of it stoked by the politician you respect, the media you consume, and in a few cases the church you support...and how willing you are to blindly accept it.

while discussion boards can and should weed out the loonies its important to remember the loonies come in all stripes and from all parts of political spectrum. A little compassion goes a long way.

There is a tremendous amount of sexism and homophobia exhibited every minute here at the DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND.

But, often they are not called out. They are not shamed. They are not admonished.

Frequently they are patted on the back and laughed with.

16. I have to admit that, while DU is one of the most PC sites there's a lot of Bigotry here

towards Christians. While Christianity has spawned plenty of bigotry of it's own... it's sad to see some people here become hypocritical. But, even then, I couldn't see someone on here shooting anybody. (of course people claim that you never see it coming ...)

Other than the contempt for even extremely liberal Christians like myself, DU is the best information and community site online. I'm extremely happy I've found it a place where so many people agree with my world view. It's very tough being a gay male dating a Wiccian and living in such a very, very conservative town where even alcohol sales are illegal... Reading DU each day provides a break from the insanity lol.

To go look up someone's stuff from the primaries last year, and see how insulting they were to others, and see what level of nasty they used when writing of candidates who they didn't back. Cross-check that with the popularity rating of their threads, and maybe you'll have your answer.

hate or violence. Even as a young man leading very angry anti-war vets, he has always been a calming voice, working steadily to resolve issues and bring people together. My synagogue, which is a re-constructionist one never pushes people to hate and has worked hard on interfaith issues - including with Muslims. I am appalled by the angry left at its extreme - because it hurts the interests I have.

I agree with you.
