Right Wingers Flail As Their World Collapses
By Bernie Horn

June 11, 2009 - 7:15am ET

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are like astronomers watching a black hole collapsing inward. But it’s the conservative movement we’re viewing. Lacking a Republican president to hold it in place, the powerful gravity of extremist ideology is crushing its adherents. At least, that’s how it looks through the lens of recent public opinion polls.

Americans are very happy with President Barack Obama. The President is wildly popular among both Democrats and Independents. Republicans don’t like him but that is neither unexpected nor particularly important.

On the other hand, no one on the Republican side is well-liked. Mitch McConnell (21 percent favorable, 62 percent unfavorable), John Boehner (14 percent favorable, 64 percent unfavorable), the Republican Party (20 percent favorable, 72 percent unfavorable), and congressional Republicans (11 percent favorable, 73 percent unfavorable) are dramatically unpopular. Only 42 percent of Republicans have a favorable opinion of Republicans in Congress.

Now a new Gallup Poll shows that Republicans are leaderless. It found that most Americans cannot even identify “the main person” who speaks for Republicans today. Here are the results:

Rush Limbaugh—13 percent
Dick Cheney—10 percent
John McCain—6 percent
Newt Gingrich—6 percent
George W. Bush—3 percent
Michael Steele—1 percent
John Boehner—1 percent
Mitt Romney—1 percent
Other—9 percent

Could not name any main person—52 percent

There is a reason for this leaderless unpopularity. The Bush Administration was an enormous failure. And Americans understand that this was not just a matter of incompetence—Bush failed because conservatism failed to live up to its promise. ...........(more)

6. I wouldn't paint with such a broad brush
Three murderers don't represent the Republican Party. As much as they're imploding and have failed they don't need to be thrown in with wackjobs who murder people they disagree with.

8. What you say is fair, but the strongest republican voice now is that of the extreme:
Limbaugh, Gingrich, Hannity, DeMint, Coburn, Inhofe, Coulter, Ingraham and those shooters.
The shooters acted on 3 republican favorite issues - anti-government (Poplawski in Pittsburgh), abortion (Roeder in Kansas), racial hatred (Von Brunn in DC).

14. I know. But I don't want us to be extemists just because they are
The Republican Party has hurt itself profoundly by allowing this to happen with their base. They need to live with it and/or do something about it relative to the party.

We Democrats have been very weak in the past, but we haven't been irrational and extremists. We've never had to lie and cheat and manipulate because our foundation is rooted in facts and truth. Even in loss we stay decent.

3. I would still say the GOP won the last election. We cannot have
one piece of legislation unless the Conservatives approve.

Every News Program is framing the Health Debate in such a way
that it is a matter of time until the Democrats cave on HealthCare
and drop the Public Option.

Their whining is just a distraction.

10. Would argue junior's regime was enormously successful in implementing its extreme RW PNAC agenda
of fiscal destruction, perpetual wars, and politicizing the Federal establishment while giving the environment and science the middle finger, all setting the public up for having to come to grips with the social security and Medicare drain on dwindling Treasury resources.

The hate runs deep in my neck of the woods

This is an open letter to ... in response to her recent letter.

Ms. ...

In your recent letter on (former Vice President Dick) Cheney we had an exchange online.

I feel that I must ask you for some verification.

You said that you could not forgive Former Vice President Cheney until he and I quote you, “his ilk” fall on their knees and ask America for forgiveness. What is he to seek forgiveness for? For keeping all Americans safe? For finally doing something about a rogue dictator? I must remind you, the current conflict in Iraq is merely a continuation of Desert Storm. Remember the cease fire? It was not a peace treaty.

Iraq violated it many times with impotent responses from the Clinton administration. If you want to talk about revisionist history, are you not revising it when you claim that this conflict was merely done to benefit Mr. Cheney’s interest and his buddies? History already puts you on faulty footing.

Furthermore you stated that your son(who previously you have identified as a truck mechanic) told you of his first “kill” over the phone. I have many problems with this claim. As a combat veteran I have never discussed such subjects with my family.

As a matter of fact nothing angers me more than the question,”How many people did you kill?” Many that I served with were the same way. Why your son apparently brags about something that most infantrymen don’t discuss baffles me. Bragging to his mother about it stuns me. I guess that truck mechanics are just different than the Infantry.

It appalls me that you refer to your son, your own flesh and blood, as damaged. The fact that you repeatedly bring him up and the problems he has is very disturbing. If the problems exist do you think it helps that you voice them to the community? Certainly not. Please quit using him, all who died in service for our country and all veterans for your own political talking points. You are doing nothing but tarnishing the service and sacrifice made to our country. Agree or disagree with why the sacrifice was necessary, but quit degrading OUR service for YOUR needs.

I would ask that you quit talking on your son’s behalf and give him the address to the editor. Let him speak for himself.

You have said, “War is not a subject to be taken lightly.” I wholly agree. I would like to add that using the service of others while you play armchair quarterback and question the motives of all (while looking through tainted glasses) shows that you do take it lightly and politicize it at every turn.

I am glad to report to you that I do not have PTSD as you have previously accused me of. No, I am pretty well adjusted. Thank you for your diagnosis but I think it was not only offensive of you to do, but further shows your ignorance. You say you care for people then make statements like that. If you cannot understand the anger that others have towards your words then you are beyond help.

I would suggest to you that you try some forgiveness. That hatred is going to eat you alive.

12. Some of us knew it was coming
When they finally got run to earth, I knew these fuckers weren't just going to smile, shrug and say, "Ah well, it was a good run." I knew they were going to fight, bitch, kick, and claw as we wrested the levers of power from their greedy, blood-stained hands. This latest spasm of violence is probably their third-to-last or next-to-last tantrum before they finally decide to regroup and work within the system to try to regain power.

When you see them blubbering about their plight, shitting and pissing themselves in their misery, they'll be about ready to rejoin America.

15. And just two and a half years from now,
their presidential primary season will be in full swing...if you want to call it that. For the Iowa caucuses, I envision a half-dozen guys dressed in plaid coats, sitting around a cabin stove, chugging hot chocolate and reminiscing about the good ol' days.

19. They bought their own crap........
The Right bought up all the media, and using well-funded think tanks, created an efficient propaganda machine. Problem is somewhere along the way they started believing their own non-sense. (I suppose they always believed it). Now, when their world view has failed utterly, they can't stop feeding their magic machine hoping it will return them to their post-9/11 halcyon days.

It failed completely. Like a wet fart at a black tie event.

But consider this; If there was even a sliver of success from that thug regime, most of us would be behind barbed wire right now.

Now they need to realize no one cares or listens to them anymore and they won't figure that out anytime soon.

And the end result will be more ex-repubs coming over to the DEM side.
