NPR's TOTN: James Von Brunn is actually a crazed Daily Kos poster.
Jamie Kerchick of the National Review tells NPR's listeners today that because James Von Brunn had the Weekly Standard on his hit list, he has more in common with lefties who hated the neocons and is just as bad as any crazed writer on the Daily Kos. Kathleen Parker also pointed out that there were just as many threats against Bush/Cheney from the left as there is from the right on Obama. No proof, of course, was provided. Another interesting fact revealed on the show was that most anti-Semites are on the left.

No challenge to any of this from the host Neal Conan, naturally.

So, the answer to today's TOTN topic "Is Right-Wing Extremism On The Rise?" is a resounding "No." Actually, the real danger comes from the left.

2. If found it interesting that to save money NPR has gotten rid of all its
subscriptions to hard copy newspapers except the WSJ.

4. Err... that's not what he said
Edited on Mon Jun-15-09 02:21 PM by Recursion
He said that some of his rhetoric about Bill O'Reilly or the Weekly Standard sounded like it came from some of the angrier Kossacks, and he had a point that we're using "vestigal" notions of right and left that don't really apply anymore, particularly on the edges.

9. He said Von Brunn could be one of the more extreme posters on Daily Kos.
He also made the point that the guy who shot the Army recruiters was also on the left because he was anti-War.

You could hardly equate Code Pink with the likes of Von Brunn and Roeder.

10. I think his word was "deranged"
His point was clear, and fair; half of his rhetoric seems ripped from the right and the other half from the left, so why is he called a "right-wing" extremist?

11. Nonsense.

No one on the left is saying the Jews caused the economic disaster. Those in the anti-war camp against PNAC's agenda are not anti-Semites. O'Reilly and Olbermann not one in the same.

12. Umm
No one on the left is saying the Jews caused the economic disaster

No-one on the right is either. Hell, the right is "Israel's best friend", and on DU more than one poster has posted some anti-neocon rhetoric that was accused by other posters of anti-Semitism.

13. Anyone that dares criticize Israel is always accused of being an anti-Semite
by someone. That's the default defense of the indefensible.

So, are you saying this Von Brunn character is not a right wing wacko? And what about all the white supremacists, like Von Brunn, who make no pretense about their anti-Semitism? They're not on the right?

BTW, there are plenty of right wing Christians who claim to be defenders of Israel, who at the same time believe all the Jews are going straight to hell once they start the Apocalypse (unless they get right with the big guy upstairs).

14. Basically, yes, I'm saying he's not a "right-wing" wacko
He's a wacko who aligns with perverted forms of both the right and left as they suit him.

21. Actually, yes. Just like how Fred Phelps and LaRouche are in our party, believe it or not.
That's the weird thing about realignment periods; the parties occasionally switch dirty laundry.

8. eh, there are plenty of righties who disliked the NeoCons
And when you add in the anti-semitism and nationalism, it explains a lot.

While I'd agree that sometimes extremists are hard to define, this guy is very (but disturbed) rightist.

Finally, I hate the attempt to equate the left's anti-Bush rhetoric with the right's anti-Obama rhetoric is ridiculous, but not new. I don't recall seeing any threats to Bush....

16. NPR sold out to the corporate suits long ago.
The morning financial idiot from last year (forget his name, he now does the internet site for NPR) blamed the working class and not the suits for the economic downturn and whored over big business like a hooker on crack last year.

Fuck NPR, I will never give them another dime.

18. I sure as hell never heard of any threats
against bushcheney. That's freakin' rw territory..those who lust for killing and war.

I want bushcheney's ass thrown in prison for a good long time so they can think about their war crimes and crimes against humanity.

They better quit spouting that shit if they don't have proof.

24. Anti-semitism on the left.
Obviously anyone who doesn't blindly support Israel 100% of the time on the Palestinian question is an anti-Semite. So there you go. More people on the left appear to more often have an open mind on Palestine (naturally, because they hate jewish people), thus most anti-Semites are on the left. Thanks Weekly Standard!
