Letterman was a fool. He walked right into the trap Palin set for him.
Not only did she get him to apologize TWICE, listen to how he sounds making this second apology.

What he's essentially saying is: "I'm sorry that you think I implied that your 14-year-old daughter is a slut. That's not true at all. I was implying your OLDER daughter is a slut."

Major fail.

It doesn't matter who the apology is to at that point. You're just not going to win any points by making an apology to a person that has to do with clarifying which of their daughters you implied was a slut. You've lost that one before you even started.

And she knew it. And that's why she raised all this racket...hoping he'd walk right into the trap.

I'm surprised. I thought he and his people knew better.

He has given the Republicans a gift. We can only hope they somehow, in their klutziness, manage to throw it away.

Dave is playing it JUST RIGHT.

Keep Sarah in the media... let her keep talking.

Maybe she might win the next primary! Please.. pretty please.

BTW... Sarah's daughter is a slut. She is over 18 years old, is NOT a good role model
for young teen girls, and IS part of the political discussion. When, as a child of an elected official,
make statements to the press, you are OPEN SEASON for rebuttals. Get used to hearing more about it.

24. No, up is up and down is down.
And whether or not Bristol Palin is a slut is entirely beside the point. All I was trying to say is, no public figure benefits from calling anyone's daughter a slut...not even if she took on the whole 7th Fleet in the middle of Times Square.

For the record, I don't really think Bristol's a slut, either. I mean, for crying out loud, she had a boyfriend, she had sex with him, she got pregnant. You're calling her a slut just for THAT???

No, she's not a good role model, not at all. And I am all for rebuttals to her. I just think she doesn't deserve the label "slut" any more than any other teenage girl who has sex with ONE boy (for all we know) and gets pregnant.

I thought progressives didn't call girls sluts for something like that.

Did the Palins exploit her to the hilt and thus invite public comment? You bet. But that doesn't oblige us to follow what would ordinarily be considered good old conservative values by calling her a slut.

36. NO ONE was called a slut!
NO ONE!! The slut comment was directed to Sarah's fashion sense. The joke involving the daughter was directed a A-rod (a known womanizer). Why wasn't Leno asked to apologize about his jokes about the Palin daughters during the campaign? They implied promiscuity much more than Dave's. What about SNL's jokes accusing Todd of incest with his daughters? They were awarded with a personal appearance on the show.

You give her way too much credit. She's doing this to keep her name being talked about because she is a narcissistic attention whore.

13. The worst thing she did is make him out to be a pedophile
Edited on Mon Jun-15-09 07:02 PM by lunatica
That's pure evil, because both she and Todd know full well what he meant. But they're the kind of people who would destroy others by saying they're pedophiles. That's one of the most serious accusations anyone can make against a man.

But it didn't work because most people know what he meant. Well, that is the one's who are honest. Because Todd and Sarah Palin aren't being honest. They're being criminally dishonest, slandering as hard as they can just to get some fame traction out of it. This has convinced me that they're really dangerous.

He will not be digging himself a deeper hole by harping on the "Honest, I meant Bristol, not Willow" thing.

Which is good. Because Milissa Rehberger made it sound on the news break as if that was what he did. And I thought "Oh great. That's gonna shut 'em up how??"

22. Dave is no fool. Here's an email to EmbassySuites who
pulled their ads from CBS..wanna get involved?

"David Letterman's comments about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and one of her daughters has prompted a hotel chain to pull its advertising on CBS' website — and spawned a campaign to fire the Late Show host that includes a planned protest outside his studio.

Embassy Suites, part of the Hilton Hotels Corp., pulled advertising on CBS' site because of complaints, company spokeswoman Kendra Walker told TVGuide.com. The company was not an advertiser on Letterman's show.

"We received lots of e-mails from concerned guests and we assessed that the statement that he made was offensive enough to our guests and prospective guests that we elected to take the ads down," Walker said. She declined to release the cost of the ads."

and has pulled their ads from all CBS.com websites.

Please contact them and let them know they've lost you as a customer for cow-towing to right wing extremists.

Dawn Ray, Public Relations, 901-374-5954, dawn.ray@hilton.com

And for all the people who don't think this is important, now they are going after Letterman, next it will be Jon Stewart, then Keith and Rachel. Don't let them silence the few progressive voices left in the media.

Please pass this on to as many friends and forums as possible.

Thank you.

Far from being a "major fail," his so-called apology had the audience in stitches. Didn't you watch the show? Everyone was roaring with laughter.

If he's smart, he will milk this and milk this for days. Because there's still comedic gold to be mined.
