Perfect example of right-wing hypocrisy, brought to you by "The View"
Edited on Wed Jun-17-09 10:26 AM by OneGrassRoot
Elizabeth Hasselbeck, to be specific.

I saw this on Monday, and I've searched and searched for the clip where she made the remark that made me want to throw up. I finally found it and transcribed the pertinent points.

Keep in mind the right-wing's comments as it pertains to O'Reilly and others' "contributions" to the violent acts which were, at the very least, triggered in part by hate radio/TV/books inflammatory rhetoric.

The ladies were discussing the Letterman-Palin thing. OF COURSE, Hasselbeck now thinks Letterman is another face of the antichrist, right along with Obama, no doubt.

Also keep in mind that, in this specific observation of right-wing hypocrisy, we're talking about commentators like O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Coulter, et al who present themselves as offering news and facts to their viewers and listeners. What's O'Reilly's schtick? "We report, you decide."

When they are called on the carpet about their rhetoric, they revert to "we're just entertainers!"

On the other end we have comedians. Letterman, Leno, Stewart, Colbert, Sykes. They have NEVER identified themselves as anything other than comedians (maybe actor for a few of them).

Here's the exchange (with only Hasselbeck's and Whoopi's comments...they all talk over one another...ughhhh), with the link to the video below. They're talking about Letterman contributing to the demeaning of young women.

Hasselbeck: He's contributing

Whoopi: He made a mistake. Contributing would be "Hustler" (magazine).

Hasselbeck: He's contributing to the idea, commenting that it's acceptable to go that far in demeaning women.

(crosstalk)

Hasselbeck: He's a social commentator, right?

Whoopi, Joy, Sheri and Barbara respond: He's a comedian. (Inside voices saying: Dipshit!!!)

Hasselbeck: Do people listen to him and hear what he says and does he affect people? I would say yes. I think there is responsibility there.

(this aspect of discussion starts around 3:50 into clip, with her specific comment above at 4:30)

The hypocrisy is ASTOUNDING and never ceases to amaze me! If something comes out of Hasselbeck's mouth, it is an official talking point. She consults with Hannity each morning (she admitted to doing so during the campaign, so she could be "informed"). If I hear it from her, I know it's what The Others are spouting for the day.

And they get away with it without being challenged. Over and over again. Not just on shows like "The View," but actual "news" programs, with supposed reporters.

So now, in the Hasselbeck right-wing-rewrite-history-change-labels-as-needed world, comedians = social commentators, and social commentators = __________ (they fill it in as needed in the moment)

WE have always recognized the truth in shows like "The Daily Show," as Stewart often presents more truth and fact in his commentary than anywhere else. But he doesn't claim to be a source of factual news.

Their ability to distort is really quite impressive; so is the gullibility of those ingesting the bullshit.

I wish I could take this clip and shove it...........in her face for her to respond. Why should a comedian take responsibility for his joke -- ONE joke -- yet O'Reilly, et al have no responsibility for their hate speech that is repeated ad nausem?

This isn't about whether or not Letterman's joke was in poor taste. This post is about the right-wing reaction and hypocrisy, and how they distort EVERYTHING.

Edited to provide video specifics

2. Hasselbeck is the only reason I EVER watch this show
I enjoy seeing her get slapped down repeatedly by Joy and Whoopie.

If she wasn't on there the show would just be another crappy TV gab fest. Just like Regis and whoever.

And I'd totally avoid it.

3. While it makes my blood pressure rise at times....
I try to watch the first 10 minutes when there is something of interest being discussed beyond trivial entertainment-related stuff.

I watch because, sadly, many low-information voters get their "news" from this show.

Hasselbeck makes me want to throw up, and I get disgusted with how the others rarely COMPLETELY slap her down. They may touch upon a rebuttal but rarely fully call out her blatant lies.

I do think Ms. Barbara is getting close, however. Hasselbeck's unwaivering loyalty to all things Palin is clearly getting under Barbara's skin. LOL

4. She drives ratings
She's creating controversy. Plus, she's stupid enough to be convinced that she's being "persecuted" by those who are smart enough to dismantle her arguments.

I will be thankful when her fifteen minutes is finally up.

Her brother-in-law, Matt, is the quarterback for the Seahawks. I am a big fan. At the same time, I did not say a word to him when I saw him in a local grocery store last summer. Let's face it, I would have probably blurted out, "I don't know how you deal with your sister in law." :woohoo:

5. Me too. I won't watch it while she's on it.
I don't need any more aggravation.

6. Any of you video editing wizards out there.....

In one of today's segments, the panel was talking once again about taking responsibility for what is said. Sheri mentioned how she thinks Palin should take responsibility for inciting the crowds at her rallies by having said things like, "Obama pals around with terrorists."

They brought up the Holocaust Museum murder and Dr. Tiller's murder, and Hasselbeck specifically said she doesn't think Bill O'Reilly should be accountable or feel responsible for "expressing his opinion."

I swear, to me, this shows the right-wing hypocrisy in all its glory. Forget the hypocrisy of the politicians; everyone recognizes that. But the sheeple -- some of whom may be on the fence and not fully aware of how pathetic they have been by watching Faux News, etc. because they've been in a friggin bubble -- need to see how petty and blatantly hypocritical THEY are, led by hate radio/TV.

A video that shows the initial clip of Hasselbeck saying Letterman needs to recognize he influences people with his words and should take responsibility, contrasted with her statement today about Bill O'Reilly.

AND, the contrast of Letterman telling ONE JOKE, versus O'Reilly calling Dr. Tiller "the baby killer" over and over and over again.

AND, showing the Palin crowds talking about killing Obama.

AND, showing the -- once again -- Palin crowds at the "Fire Dave Letterman" rallies shouting "slut" about his wife, calling his child a bastard, and with signs calling Dave a sex offender, for crying out loud!!!

For any rational people (though they may be few) who watch the right-wing crap (where they DON'T SEE THIS stuff, keep in mind), who might start to realize the folly of their watching and listening to this crap, a nice, neat video of this one situation would be a perfect thing to pass around.

Let them look in the mirror and see how ugly they are.

Can anyone help do this?

:)
