http://www.1payer.net/action-alerts/washington-rally.htmlYour response to Secy. Sebelius' assertion that the Obama Administration would block single payer was terrific and furious. There were many, many comments to me, as well as faxes to the White House. Unfortunately, we are still unable to reach the Secretary with faxes, phone calls or emails. How transparent is that?
As of today, you have sent almost 105,000 faxes supporting singlepayer to the White House and various legislators. We will soon have a fax tool upgrade that will allow you to fax your own senators and congressmen with your own words --and I hope you will give them an earful.
Apparently, the fax machine in Rep. Rangel's office broke under the strain of keeping up with you. After your fax blast to Rangel earlier this week, he has invited singlepayer advocates to meet with him in New York on Monday.
However, we need to let Rep. Rangel know that a token meeting is not enough. We want Rangel's Ways & Means committee to hold singlepayer hearings and ask CBO to score the single payer bill in the House -- John Conyers' HR 676.
To that end, tomorrow I will send you a request to start a fax campaign to ask just that of Rep. Rangel and his committee members. I hope you will send the Congressman a convincing number of faxes in advance of his meeting with single payer advocates. And by tomorrow, perhaps there will be a little added surprise for the Congressman and his staff -- even if they have not fixed their fax machine.
And if your donations are overwhelming then maybe, just maybe, we can buy the Congressman a new fax machine. I would hate to think he is out of touch. :-)
Join Me in Washington on June 25
On June 25, we will be demanding real reform, not just a confused duplication of our current mess. We want you there. It's the Great American Sickout.
http://www.1payer.net/action-alerts/washington-rally.htmlYes, it's short notice. Yes, it's a Thursday. And yes, it's important. So be there.
If you can't be there, at least take the day off (sick-out) and call all your legislators in Washington. Call on June 25 and tell them that you want single payer Medicare For All. Thousands of others will be in Washington that day delivering the demand for real health reform in person. You can help with a few phone calls if you cannot join us.
