ENSIGN DEFENDS SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE ON SENATE FLOOR (July 13, 2004)
Washington, D.C. – Senator John Ensign took to the floor of the United States Senate today to defend the sanctity of marriage and urge passage of the Federal Marriage Amendment Act.

“Marriage recognizes the ideal of a father and mother living together to raise their children,” Ensign said. “Marriage is the cornerstone on which our society was founded. For those who say that the Constitution is so sacred that we cannot or should not adopt the Federal Marriage Amendment, I would simply point out that marriage, and the sanctity of that institution, predates the American Constitution and the founding of our nation. Marriage, as a social institution, predates every other institution on which ordered society in America has relied.”

1. Bringing forth, yet again,
my Italian grandmother's favorite saying:

YOU SPIT UP IN THE AIR, IT LANDS IN YOUR FACE.

7. I had an Italian grandmother
She never told me that one. I don't think anyway? She never learned to speak English and I never learned to speak Italian.

Thanks for sharing it.

3. My wife can't have children
Why is there no outrage about our childless union? The State of Louisiana and the Parish of Jefferson sanctioned the whole thing, no questions asked about children. We're partners for life with no kids, we call it a marriage, and they let us.

On marriage predating the Constitution, I lauged when Bush talked about the 5000 year history of marriage. So we lived in sin for 3 million years?

5. Of course
I work with a creationist, intelligent, but misinformed. He's convinced the speed of light has to be must faster than its known speed to put the furthest galaxies at a distance of 6000 light years. At least he's trying, Bush didn't give it that much thought.

and that's really weird about your co-worker's speed of light theory, even by creationist standards...but yeah, at least he's trying to force it to make sense...

9. I know
Someday I'll crunch the numbers and prove that the earth is like 600 feet across, or something as ridiculous.
