WASHINGTON - Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton fractured her right elbow during a fall Wednesday, her chief of staff said.

Clinton was on her way to the White House when she fell and injured her elbow, chief of staff Cheryl Mills said in a statement released late Wednesday.

Clinton was treated at The George Washington University Hospital, just a few blocks from State Department headquarters, before going home. She will undergo surgery to repair her elbow in the coming week, Mills said.

3. Is the President cursed or something?
First Sotomayor, now this.

If Biden hurts himself next I'll be seriously freaked. :p

8. Yikes.
Back in '67 my mother fell backwards while decorating the Christmas tree. She broke both elbows. They put each arm in a sling, and for two months drinking through a straw was the only thing she could do for herself. After extensive and painful therapy (which has greatly changed since then, thank heaven!) she slowly regained the use of her arms, although she still can't completely straighten either one. To this day, in her home you utter the word 'elbow' at your peril. She did learn to bowl as 'therapy', though; she carried a 165 average and only quit when she had to switch to trifocals.

Here's wishing a speedy recovery to Secretary Clinton!

9. Certain types of high heel shoes (even as low as 1-1/2") are damn near lethal...

... because they can skid on linoleum and even concrete.

Not long after a colleague took a pratfall and fractured her elbow while coming in from the parking lot at work, I had a severe fall myself while walking down the hallway inside the building. The heel of my shoe hit the linoleum at an angle and down I went, ass over teakettle. I was lucky the only thing damaged was my dignity. I threw that pair of shoes away.

Both of us were wearing "low" high-heels, and both of us were relatively young -- she was in her early 30s and I was in my early 40s, neither of us with any balance issues.

Get well soon to Hillary and Sonia --we need you at work!

Hekate
