Promise Keeper Ensign

Senator Ensign is an active member of Promise Keepers®, a Christian men’s fellowship (motto:” Men of Integrity”).

Central to Promise Keepers® membership is a pledge to keep the Seven Promises, among them:

PROMISE 3: A Promise Keeper is committed to practicing spiritual, moral, ethical, and sexual purity.

PROMISE 4: A Promise Keeper is committed to building strong marriages and families through love, protection and biblical values.

Well … five out of seven ain’t bad.

Besides, Mr. Ensign got a 100% rating from the Christian Coalition on family issues and 100% ratings from the Family Research Council (”Defending Family, Faith, and Freedom”)
and Donald Wildmon’s American Family Association.

”Marriage recognizes the ideal of a father and mother living together to raise their children. Marriage is the cornerstone on which our society was founded … It is not right to
mold marriage to fit the desires of a few, against the wishes of so many, and to ignore the important role of marriage.”

– Senator John Ensign (R-NV), defending the Sanctity of Marriage Act on the Senate floor, 2004

9. LMAO
When my ex traded his bong for a bible, I cringed but gave him a chance to demonstrate this might make him less of an arsehole. Nope, he got even worse. Once he got sucked into PK, I knew it meant trouble. Actually, it would have saved me a lot of grief (for the kids' sake) if he'd only cheated on me.

I have to say I'm a little shocked to see this list because I didn't see evidence he was doing any of it. The biggest change was when he started having tantrums about the weirdest shit. Appeared in the doorway as his usual black cloud of doom one day after work and started ranting for an hour about what a horrible mother I was to be sitting there with my kids in front of Star Trek. Spock had just declared he could never flip to the Romulans because his allegiance was to Star Fleet and his captain. OMFG! Everyone "knows" his allegiance should be to his lord and saviour!

Yes, that's when I jettisoned him.

If I may speak as The Voice of Experience, being a PK should exclude a dude from public office, not recommend him. Weird-arsed fundamentalist fucks.

5. I know little about them - started By Bill McCartney(?) former
highly successful football coach at Colorado. He had little time for his family then. His oldest daughter had 2 or 3 kids by - well the football team.
I only know this because I had a friend who was gung-ho on promise-keepers so I did a wee bit of reading on them. It was so hard to find info before the internet.

7. I'll say this about that:
A few years ago the sports facility of which I was an employee held a PK "retreat" for all these fine specimens of male do-gooderness. Upon leaving work I was forced to wade through the parade of these Christian men whom were gathered together to measure each other's "integrity". I struck by the fact that the only other time I'd felt awash in a sea of misogyny such as this was at a Rolling Stones concert. }(

p.s. minimal punctuation used for the full nauseous effect.

13. I had an asshole associate that was a member of that moronic club...
Edited on Thu Jun-18-09 11:58 AM by Javaman
he cheated on his wife and tried to blame it all on her.

One day, she packed up everything they had and vanished with the kids. Later called him and told him to go fuck his girlfriend because he had lost his family.

He was at a complete loss as to why she was so mad.

Some men are dumb, some men are stupid, but the worst are the ones that are willfully dumb, stupid and think it's everyone else's problem. This in a nutshell describes the asshole promise keepers.

Later on, I met yet another one of these fools. This guy was a complete loser. Had gotten married and divorced several times and he claimed it was all their fault. They just didn't understand him. I replied, maybe it's you that has the poor relationship skills? He got angry and started to spout off on a family values tirade. After he quieted down, I asked him if he had kids? He spit out, "yes, I have 3!" And do you pay child support? He replied, "sometimes, when I feel like it". Ahhh good old family values.
