Fox News writer charged in Central Park bike brouhaha
A Fox News writer who allegedly dragged a cyclist for four blocks through New York's Central Park
faces up to a year in jail after being charged with fleeing the scene of an accident.

According to Gawker, Don Broderick was arrested on June 12 for an incident that happened two weeks ago, in which a Brooklyn man cycling through Central Park was cut off by an SUV, and then dragged under the car for four blocks after confronting the driver.

Evidently, Broderick is blaming the cyclist, claiming that the two-wheeled commuter was a traffic "vigilante."

2. I can see the defense: "Your honor, my client didn't *flee* the accident. He brought it with him"
Too bad for him this is NYC. I don't think they play that shit there. Of course, I'm basing my judgment on what I see on Law & Order.

3. What vehicle should be more common in Central Park? a SUV or a bike?
If he pinned this guy under his SUV he should go to jail for longer than one year. I'm sure FAUX would hold his job--he's there kind of guy.

5. Can't blame a guy in an SUV
He's a "real American" not some commie bicycle rider who hates our country. :sarcasm:

7. He was on the hood, not under the car
Raw Story got that totally wrong. According to Gawker and a quote from the cyclist...

Brian Dooda, a Brooklyn film archivist, was riding his bike on East Dr. in Central Park at about 5 p.m. on Thursday when he says a grey SUV cut him off, nearly swiping his front tire. Angered, Dooda caught up with the car, which had "NYP" license plates designating its driver as a media representative, at the next red light. He positioned himself in front of the SUV and told the driver to slow down and observe the park's 25 m.p.h. speed limit. Here's what happened next, according to an account Dooda gave to the NYPD and posted on a cycling message board:

"The driver then accelerated, lunging straight into me, knocking me and my bicycle to the ground and to the left side of his car. I quickly got to my feet and positioned myself in front of his vehicle to prevent him from fleeing the scene. I called out to bystanders to call the police and yelled at the driver that he was insane, he just hit me, and he can't leave. The driver again accelerated into me, with no intention of stopping, forcing me, prostrate, onto the drivers side hood of his vehicle. Riding precariously with a 4,000 lb wheel inches from pulling me beneath it, I screamed for the driver to "Stop!!! Please Stop!!" over and over. He continued to ignore my pleas for some 200ft. keeping a steady 5 or 10mph. He then stopped suddenly allowing me to fall off the side of the hood. Just as quickly as he stopped he violently accelerated again knocking me to the side. This time I managed to stay standing. The driver then sped off Northbound. At this point several witnesses came to my aid and reported his license plate."

Dooda's injuries consisted of a scraped elbow, so thankfully he wasn't seriously hurt.

I think the SUV driver should be in trouble for a whole lot more than just leaving the scene of an accident as he intentionally struck Dooda and dragged him clinging to the hood refusing to stop. That seems like it should be assault with a deadly weapon (the vehicle). I've never heard of anyone being intentionally struck by someone with their vehicle and not being charged for assault with a deadly weapon regardless of what injuries the person intentionally struck sustained. And this asshole intentionally hit the guy with his car TWICE after the first close call!
