Oops the Ensign money trail has hit cable
It's no longer just about an affair. People are following the money.

Is Ensign Walking Back Extortion Claim?
By Zachary Roth - June 18, 2009, 12:54PM

Did John Ensign's camp try to spin the announcement of his affair by smearing his girlfriend's husband? And is it now trying to walk that back?

Let us explain:
So it seems pretty clear that the Ensign camp made a conscious decision to put out the word that Ensign was being extorted by Doug Hampton -- and that Ensign himself was part of that effort.

But today, the Review-Journal has new information on what triggered Ensign's dramatic mea culpa:

According to Ensign's aides, Doug Hampton had approached a television news network about the affair, prompting Ensign to go public. This could not immediately be confirmed.

A Washington source said Doug Hampton approached Ensign earlier requesting money, with the implication that it would ensure the couple's continued silence as the senator sought to continue his climb in the ranks of the Republican party.

The fun has just begun. I'm sure the Hampton couple aren't too happy with the extortion charge. How much 'hush money' did Ensign give his mistress in that severance package for silence. Sing Cindy, sing!!!

7. I vote that after this, we grow the fuck up
I really don't care at all where Sen. Ensign's penis has gone, whether into his wife or into some staffer. I don't care. At all.

In exchange for the fact that I don't care, at all, it will now be certifiably and forever off limits for any politician anywhere to proclaim that his penis only goes into the vagina of the woman he's currently married to. Or to make a big deal of where any other politician's penis, or any private citizen's penis, might go. That is, if you're a good family man, devoted to your wife and kids, then be a good family man, devoted to your wife and kids. I don't care. At all.

What I do care about is the sort of job a person does once they're installed in office. If they're batshit crazy like Michelle Bachmann, then it's up to the voters in her district to turn her out of office now that they've seen how batshit crazy she is. If a politician promises to be a tool for corporate America and screw the citizens over every chance he gets with legislation, then judge him on how well he follows through on those promises, not whether his penis finds its way into the vagina of a woman not his wife. Because, as you may have heard, I don't care. At all.

Then we can all grow up, if just a little bit, and quit with the junior high school type of game-playing.

And you can't read. What was that about, "growing the fuck up"? Get a clue.

"A Washington source said Doug Hampton approached Ensign earlier requesting money, with the implication that it would ensure the couple's continued silence as the senator sought to continue his climb in the ranks of the Republican party. "

On edit: Oh and here's another link..

Ensign Helped Mistress's Husband Get Jobs

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=7876187

Sen. John Ensign helped his mistress's husband get two jobs during the time the rising Republican senator acknowledges carrying on an extramarital affair, an Ensign spokesman said Thursday.

>snip<

Ensign on Tuesday admitted having a nine-month affair with Doug Hampton's wife, Cindy, who also worked for the senator. Ensign's office has said that both Cindy and Doug Hampton left their jobs in May 2008, and the affair ended in August 2008.

the months after leaving his post, Doug Hampton quickly landed two positions with companies connected to Ensign.

(so again, I ask, you are okay with extortion?)

19. I didn't say a word about extortion
But nice try. Thank you for your concern.

And if something becomes a non-issue, how can someone be blackmailed over it? That is to say, if our society could grow up - just a smidgen - and quit being so obsessed with what someone does or doesn't do with his penis, how could anyone be blackmailed about it?

Instead, we're treated to the grand spectactle of Sen. Ensign, and his prideful boasting about what he does with his penis. And apparently, we're all supposed to be highly impressed. Or emulative. Or something. Whatever. It seems quite childish to me, and I'm guessing it's childish to millions of other Americans. Or maybe I'm the only one, but my experience with residents of other countries indicates that I have a common sensibility on the subject.

Then, as so often happens, a boastful nature falls down on the job, and Sen. Ensign does something with his penis that he's not quite so proud of. And so he's subject to being blackmailed. If he hadn't been so out front (so to speak) about what a wonderful job he does with his penis - complete with unsolicited advice for everyone else about the proper care and handling of their penises - he wouldn't have anything to be ashamed about now. And if a person isn't ashamed of something, they can't be blackmailed over it.

20. you seem really obcessed about the guys penis
and how it's a none issue, yet when I bring up extortion, you go back to you not caring about his penis.

stay with the times, the story has already evolved way past his penis issue and is gone straight to actual extortion.

However, since you seem very unconcerned about his penis, I'm sure you will bring it up again and again while the rest of us actually deal with the real story.

you are weird and you are blocked.

22. I've read my post #7 several times
And the word "extortion" doesn't show up there at all. How curious that you're so obsessed not only with Sen. Ensign's penis, but also extortion, even when it's not mentioned at all in a post. I sort of explained that in my last post; I even typed extra slow so that you would have a better chance of understanding, but even that wasn't enough, apparently.

But I'll accept your block as an admission that you went off half-cocked and blew a wad of irrelevance all over this thread.

Edited on Fri Jun-19-09 08:32 AM by ThomWV
The husband was paid with tax-payer dollars, was he given a raise with our money to pay for his wife fucking (I presume that is what they were doing) the Senator?

As for the wife, she was paid with campaign contributions. Let me ask you, did contributors to his campaign think they were paying for the Senator to be able to get another TV commercial made or to get another blow job or laid one more time on their buck? One would think they might be a bit upset to see how their money was spent.

21. What if Ensign is a bisexual swinger?
So it would not be an affair with someone's wife, but a sexual relationship with both and maybe others. That would sort of make things make more sense at this point.
