WASHINGTON -- Almost 25 million phone numbers were added to the federal government's Do Not Call list in fiscal 2006, demonstrating that more and more Americans don't want their dinners disturbed by telemarketers.

The national Do Not Call registry had 132 million phone numbers as of September 2006, a 23 percent increase from the previous year, the Federal Trade Commission said in a report released Thursday.

Lydia Parnes, director of the FTC's bureau of consumer protection, has cited the humorist Dave Barry's observation that Do Not Call is "the most popular government program since the Elvis stamp."

3. Just tell them your on the list
and because they called you they are subject to a FTC fine up to $11,000 and ask to speak to a supervisor. Then yell at them for awhile until they bore you. I find it a great stress reliever and the way I see it if all the employees become disgruntled then the industry just might fold. Nah, I just like to yell.

4. I got on that list last year
it's great. It takes awhile for it to populate through the telemarketers DB, but after a couple months the calls stop coming.

And all you have to say is "I'm on the do not call list", and they're gone.

Peace.

5. Now you see why I supported
the "Do Call" list. The default should be don't call.
