Diane Sawyer Responds to "Mickey Mouse Sponsored Infomercial" Charge

ABC's Diane Sawyer was on CNN's "Reliable Sources" yesterday talking about the networks' White House Health Care special this Wednesday. After host Howard Kurtz played a clip of FNC's Sean Hannity's characterization of the special as a "Mickey Mouse sponsored infomercial," concluding, "journalism in America is dead," Sawyer responded:

Oh, Sean. Again, ABC, I'm so proud of ABC. And I hope that there is some recognition for the fact that this network is trying to tackle a serious issue in a serious way, and we are doing something that we would love to see a lot more air time dedicated to.

What is more important than a dialogue about health care? It is not an infomercial. ABC News does not do that. We will be there, and these people in this room are going to be able to ask questions from every single vantage point. And they are going to challenge the president, many of them.

1. Hard to take her seriously given the shitty way she treated John Kerry.

3. Kerry took abuse from everyone, down to and including Jon Stewart.
He was an easy target.

4. I disagree, to the extent that the alternative was completely unacceptable. On the other hand,
if someone other than Bush had been running against him, then my opinion would not be so fixed.

5. Don't get me wrong -- I liked Kerry. He was smart and the contrast to Bush was huge.
Nevertheless, he was an easy target.

7. I treated Kerry like shit.
And he was a shitty soft candidate unable to take on the slurs thrown at him.
This is why he lost.

2. Let's see -- a corporate whore claims that somebody else is a corporate whore. Sounds familiar.
Oh, yeah. I remember now:

6. it's so sad
that we have to defend ABC from charges of being too liberal. ABC. Anyway, Howard Kutz sucks. Dianne said that ABC offered the Bush administration the same opportunity (town halls), but they "didn't think it was the right forum for them" (yes, everyone would need to be pre-screened for that). Of course, "media critic" Howard Kurtz said that he didn't know ABC offered the Bush administration the same deal. Of course you didn't know, Howard, he is such a clueless lightweight.
