Update on DC Metro crash: 42 taken to hospital, at least two dead.
According to WUSA-TV (CBS affiliate), unofficial numbers.

I ride that train every day, but just happened to catch a ride with a friend today. Astounding. Wall-to-wall coverage here in the DC area. No cause established as yet, but terrorism not suspected at this time.

2. Thanks, cali. Me, too. Astounding stuff.
Nobody ever thinks of anything like this happening. I will be surprised if the fatalities don't go up. One train went right up over the top of the other, and was sheared.

Still unsure whether the train was northbound or southbound. If northbound coming out of DC at rush hour, the cars would have been packed. If southbound, the number of passengers would have been very light.

3. Glad you're OK bro
but according to some people this does not deserve national coverage since M$Greedia is preoccupied with Iran.

4. Quick! Play the lottery!
Today was surely your very lucky day, and I'm glad.

Whew.

Even Chris Matthews did a live intro of his 7 pm segment - which is usually a re-run of his 5 pm show - did a bit with Norah O'Donnell doing phone coverage from the site of the crash.

One train jumped the tracks. That's bad..................

5. I rode the red line for years
From Silver Spring to Metro Center. Metro was always safe, up until a few years ago.

8. Thanks. Sorry for those involved. Thank God the train was inbound at p.m. rush hour.
If this had happened on a packed outbound train, wow.

10. FOX (Shepard Smith) just reported one train rear-ended
the other stopped train, then ran up over the top of it. Is that what you're hearing?

Edited on Mon Jun-22-09 06:26 PM by TheCowsCameHome
Gee, who would have thought that was a even possibility......talk about paranoia.

Unreal.

13. Who knows
What we do know is that a female operator died. We'll find out if she was texting.

14. It's not paranoia -
you're talking about a place just a few miles from the Pentagon.

Remember 9/11? The Pentagon?

You're talking about a place just a few miles from the Capitol and the White House.

Around here, anything that goes loudly haywire is always going to be suspected terrorism, at first.

Memories die hard ................

17. Update- death toll climbs to 6
There were 70 others injured. Some had less serious injuries and were bussed to George Washington University Hospital. They called these the walking wounded. There were some people taken by helicopter to Washington Hospital Center. The search of the trains continues with trained dogs. There may be bodies that are in between seats that slammed together.
