Statement from MO Dem leader re: Cynthia 'Hunger is a Motivator' Davis
Edited on Thu Jun-25-09 04:47 PM by proud2BlibKansan
Dear Friends,

For the second time in three nights, millions of viewers watching "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" on MSNBC watched Republican Cynthia Davis (R-O'Fallon), Chair of the Special Committee on Children and Families, being named as the "Worst Person in the World."

This label was brought on by Davis' awful comments harshly criticizing the state for providing free meals to hungry Missouri children. She stated that child hunger "can be a motivator" as the basis for her argument against school meals for low income children. Davis has defended and reinforced those comments in the past few days.

House Democrats strongly believe that it is highly inappropriate for a lawmaker who callously believes that Missouri children should go hungry to lead the House committee with jurisdiction over issues related to children and families.

That is why, today I have requested that Republican Speaker Ron Richard remove Representative Davis from her chairmanship, a post to which he appointed her. House Democrats believe that this action would show that the Missouri House puts the welfare of our children first. Allowing Rep. Davis to continue to chair the Special Committee on Children and Families would amount to an endorsement of her offensive views by the Speaker and the House Republican Caucus.

It is my hope that Speaker Richard will see the wisdom of our request to move Missouri forward. We will continue our efforts to fight for the one out of every five children in Missouri go to bed hungry each night. We ask that the Republicans join us.

Sincerely,

Paul LeVota

1. Good move.
You don't think Richard will actually do it, do you?

Anything he does will hurt him at this point. If he ignores LeVota's request, he looks like a heartless bastard. If he abides by it, his fellow republicans will roast him alive.

For sure this will be a fun show to watch. :)

6. I didn't realize she was from O'Fallon.
I have relatives there. Now I'll have to go back and find those threads and read them.

11. Oh, yeah. O'Fallon, St. Charles...
That whole northwest side of the city is very red. Maybe even all the suburbs. We were in the Arnold/Fenton area (more southwest) a few weeks ago and saw a recent model car with a pristine Reagan/Bush 84 bumper sticker on it. :wtf:

8. I completely agree with him.
Her comments were monstrous, and there's no WAY she should be heading the Special Committee on Families and Children, when she is obviously so shockingly out of touch with the needs of many families and children.
