Michigan picked to build GM's subcompact
Michigan has won the high-stakes competition with two other states to build General Motors Corp.'s next-generation subcompact car, a person briefed on the decision said Thursday.

The announcement that the car will be built at a retooled midsize car factory in Orion Township near Pontiac will come Friday, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the plan has not been made public. It will save about 1,200 jobs at the factory, which had been slated to shut down later this year.

9. Well, no one's going to force you to buy one, dearie. Go buy a gas hog.
Just don't come back here whining when gas hits $5 again.

7. We actually had a lot of good news
toward the end of 2008 and early 2009, particularly with all the films studios and lithium battery plants. The problem is that many of the jobs won't appear immediately and people need jobs now. Things are going to get bad here but Michigan does have a good future.

11. Thank doG. Orion (just north of me) really NEEDS that.
Much of my growing-up was spent near there. It's a very deserving area.

19. It's suppose to be based on the Chevy Spark concept
I don't think GM has shown pictures of the actual production vehicle or said whether they'll keep the same name yet.
