It's time for me to come clean. I'm on welfare.
I didn't intentionally lie to all of you. I thought that I was an air traffic controller and that my salary was compensation for the job I did.

However, it's been explained to me that if you work for the federal government, you don't have employer-subsidized medical benefits as a part of your overall compensation package like people do in the private sector. You have "public health care".

...because that subsidy "comes from tax dollars".

By that logic, any pay I receive, since it also "comes from tax dollars", must be welfare.

Again, my apologies.

17. Me too.
Every once in a while some jerk would hear I was a Federal employee and say he paid my salary. I would explain that he paid "taxes" as I did. Taxes and not the jerk paid my salary.

2. Don't feel bad.
I spent three years on welfare when I was in the Army. They paid me with taxpayer dollars, too.

Same logic, right?

7. Excellent example.
I was still getting over the shock of suddenly being on welfare.

I completely forgot about the military.

16. I'm a military retiree
sucking on the teat of Uncle Sam, just a welfare Chief. If I had conservative values I'd turn down my check and demand the VA hospital system be closed. If ya can't risk your life for your country without expecting cheap health care and recompense then just move to France with the rest of the namby pamby candy assed liberals. We are just a burden on society teammate. Too bad we aren't brave and great like those conservative icons on the radio.

3. Just askin' here; this NOT an assault: If it isn't supported by "the Market" what is it?
Edited on Fri Jun-26-09 08:02 AM by patrice
If "the Market" has no input into what/who/how the money is spent, what kind of enterprise is that?

5. And you can't give any of your salary to a church if you chose to do so because it's tax
money and it can't go to churches.

Seen that one on here too.

8. I will. Thanks for the support!
We're mostly "behind the scenes" people. Most people don't realize we're even there...which means we're doing our jobs.

9. Did you tell them you were going to demand a tax refund?
If you're on welfare, you shouldn't be paying fed/state taxes or FICA or retirement.

Did you ask them if their employer deducted medical subsidy payments from their gross receipts before figuring their tax burden? Does their employer deduct employee wages or rent/capital costs or the cost of material from their gross receipts ?

Gov't tax policies encourage a lot of behavior that goes beyond home ownership.

12. Deadbeat.
(Just kidding...)

By your description, however, all politicians and elected "representatives" (they represent corporations, not constituents) are also deadbeats on welfare.

14. That's was kinda my point.
Some people have no problem claiming that federal employees (including federal legislators) have "public health care".

If the medical benefits associated with their jobs are "public health care" simply because tax dollars are used, then their salaries must be "welfare" for the same reason.

13. The company I work for has many government contracts
and gets money from the US Government for the products and services we provide, all paid for via tax dollars. I must be on welfare as well.
