My wife and I have health plan under Cigna. Recently we discovered my wife is pregnant with our first child, we went to the doctor thinking we had coverage. To our surprise having a baby is not covered in our plan....
When looking for other health care options we've found that no other medical insurer would assist us because my pregnant wife has a "preexisting condition", our unborn baby is considered a preexisting condition?! We've found out "we make too much money" to apply for any assistance from the government, even though we live very very modestly...
We are hard working professionals who've never received hand-outs in our lives, we've worked hard in our jobs and at school, now we're approaching our mid thirties. We're not young unwed teenagers! This has financial hardship has tested our relationship, when this time should be the most happiest moment in our lives... To say it's just not fair wouldn't begin to express how I feel.
This could be me and my hubby. We desperately want a child, but cannot afford one. We are married 4 years, 30 and 31 yrs old, and in that category of "too much money" for help, but really not enough to handle the everyday costs of life. What will happen, will we have to never have a child because of the costs? AND for those who think adoption is a great alternative, adoption costs even more.
